Store the Salt water in a 5g bucket

Store the Top Off water in a 5g bucket

Take out about 1/2 gallon once a week for a regular change. Take out the 1/2 gallon using small tubing, about 1/3 or 1/4 inch tubing. You can do this while siphoning. Then refill with a cup.

Sounds good?

Ok thanks! Should I put lids on the buckets? How long will they last sitting there?

Yeah I would put lids to keep out the dust and assorted critters. I believe they can sit over a month at normal temperatures, as long as you keep it clean.

Yes put lids on the buckets. It'll last long enough for you.

Google water changes and watch a couple videos. There are some helpful ones.

Partially Submerged

When I ran a Picotope, I'd make a fresh batch of water weekly (3 gallons, so basically a 100% water change every week) and used distilled water from the grocery store for topping off. Works like a charm. If you do large weekly water changes (which is highly recommended with this small tanks), I don't think storing mixed water makes a lot of sense.

You can also just take a plastic cup and remove a 1/2 gal. ( or as much or little as you want) at a time by scooping it out. Then gently pour back the mixed salt. Are you checking the salinlty to your new mix- you'll want that to be the same as well as close to the same temp . You don't have to siphon each time. Just lightly stir your gravel once a week. It makes it quick and easy to just scoop out a little at a time. I am not familiar with that tank- does it have a filter compartment- just remove enough water each time so you don't drain out your tank. Also pour the new salt slowly into the filter compartment.
