Mr Aqua 22L Regular or 12L Low Iron?

Like the title says, interested to see views from people who've seen both the low iron Mr Aqua's vs the regular glass. Will I be happy with the regular glass 22L? I think the low iron version @ $300 is a little steep. I'd love to have a low iron 36x12x10, but custom is super expensive too. Can't see paying that when I can just settle for the 12L low iron for the same look.

I was wondering the same, they're asking too much for low iron, once im financially stable again, i'd love to upgrade from my 12g long but being used to low iron (HD clarity) I don't know if I will be happy with regular glass, but cost difference is huge so might just settle for it.

Yeah, I think if I were to shell out $300, I'd just get the custom 36x12x10 that I'd like. But for roughly half that or so, I can get the 22L regular glass if I'd be happy with it. I have an acrylic now & that's nice and clear. Undecided......

Not to confuse the issue even more - I have the 12 gallon low-iron version of the tank and I considered "upgrading" to the 22 gallon tank. For the price, if I do "upgrade" to a similar but larger thank and choose to go for low iron, I think that I would go for the IM 30 gallon Nuvo Fusion rather than the Mr Aqua 22 gallon Exquisite Ultra.

The IM 30 L is ~35.5x15x13 total dimensions. The display is ~35.5x11.25x13 display, which is really close to the Mr Aqua ~36x12x12. Then I can hide the ATO, probes and thermometer. Depending on the return pump, I might be able to take out one of my two circulation pumps also, leading to a much cleaner display. The IM tank is low iron also, and the price is $350 vs $290 for the Mr Aqua.

I had the 11.4 Mr. Aqua without low iron. Having had and still having some tanks with low iron, I don't think it's a deal breaker. You might notice the difference having two tanks next to each other, otherwise your eyes are use to regular glass. I think the standard Mr. Aqua is fine and clear enough to not notice what your missing. JMO.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm gonna sump it, so would like to keep with the clear back panel look. I also don't want to feel that I need to upgrade from the 12g after a while. I've heard a few people with the 12's talking about upgrades. But I also don't want to get so big that I have to do 10 gal waterchanges either. I'm gone a lot and need to keep it simple & low maintenance. How long have you had your 12 & what is the reason for upgrade? Lol, prob like me, just need something different to tinker with! Lol

I keep hearing people say how clear the low iron are & it just has me worried that I won't like it for some reason, maybe just being paranoid. Is it that big of a difference or more of a luxury item......hmmmm

I have one and another low iron tank and a regular mr. Aqua. I think the Mr.Aqua is awesome and don't have second thoughts about it not being like my other tanks. There's more to worry about. Anyone can say spend the money, at least it's easy, seeing as it's not there's. Lol

If your on the fence about it and are a anal individual who wants to have everything perfect and down to the details, just do it! I personally if had an up charge, might pay for front pane, but I'm not gonna upgrade a stock type tank, maybe a custom, maybe....cad does custom tanks and they use low iron on everything. I've gotten quotes from them before, and it's very competitive.

$300 no way! Cad could get custom for 3 bills probably drilled and all.

Food for thought, these tanks are so thin that the difference between low iron and regular glass is minimal.

Thanks! That's what I was looking for!

Thanks for the info on CAD, I'll give them a holler. I'd really like the tank to be 36x12x10. I might be inclined to spend 3 bills on that! Lol

Yeah I've heard some bad things, I'll let them give me a price 1st, then decide if it's worth the risk

I would encourage you to research CAD lights before ordering anything from them, especially custom tanks.

Kind of a blanket statement. They build many tanks by hand, of course you'll find bad reviews or whatever it is your saying. My last to tanks had perfectly aligned seams, no sloppy silicone job and even there sumps are sweet. I've seen there custom work, and it's just as good. It's like Amazon I only have left bad feedback, if I'm happy I don't go out of my way to make and its it. There customer service use to suck, now it's great! They will make a wrong right and usually it takes a single email or even a phone call to fix anything. I had two DB tanks that have crappy aligned seams and silicone slobber the glass and overall terrible looking tanks, not to mention my seam was bad on my tank and they got I tires I sent showing tons of large bubble and crevices that shows after filling. I'm just ranting now, sorry OP but do research and talk to cad first!

Thanks, yeah I'll get a price. I have a local builder but they'll only do rimmed in anything 12" or less, bummer cause they make awesome tanks. Also gonna get a quote from ReefSavvy. Not finished with the stand & light yet so, I have some time.

I am not looking to upgrade anytime soon, but you know, you always look around and think.. Hmm, what if... The tank is at work and I can't sump it. All my equipment is in the display, and I could not get a clean look. The back of the tank is up against a wall, so I don't need a clear back. A rear compartment or a sump to hide the probes and ATO would really help the aesthetics. The neo-therm and MP10WES are pretty innocuous.

Yeah, I love the tank I have, but my son is 8 months old & getting in to stuff & I have cords & controllers & crap all around my current tank cause the stand is so small. Need to upgrade to a bigger stand so I can fit everything inside. Also I'm afraid he might be able to tip this one over at some point, it's pretty stable with the sump weight in the bottom, but a 36" wide stand he won't b able to budge. Good excuse to upgrade!! Lol
