Jays simplicity

Hello everyone, Im new to the forum but I've been in the hobby since i was 17 now 27 and i've enjoyed every moment. Ive learned that keeping things simple and not chasing the "magical numbers" set by the reef gods, works for me.

This tank will be a SPS Bare bottom reef equipment list follows:

Tank- IM 30L

Skimmer- midsize ghost skimmer

Powerhead- Gyre 130, Not impressed at the current moment with this

Lighting- ATI 6x39w dimmable sunpower

Filtration- 2 Im filter socks to catch anything that comes thru the overflow

Reactors- Im desktop mini reactor (only used when needed for GFO, Aquamaxx nano calcium reactor.

ATO- AquaSmart- Great ATO

Controller- Apex with lab grade ph probe

I used some rock from my 150 to seed my others. To the far right of the tank the bottom rock is a wrasse den. It has 3 openings and sand on the inside so my future wrasse will have a bed.

The middle rock has 20 pre drilled frag plugs slot. This will be where i keep most of my prized pieces.

The tank is foggy currently due to me just completing a water change. I currently have no fish because i have been seeding my tank with pods. I do have two Sps piece in there to test my tank, so far so good. They have been in there for 2 weeks.

Thanks for looking, this will be fun.

Now for some Pics

I've been having a lot of trouble keeping my temp under 83-84 range. We are having a hot summer but i think the ati fixture is keeping the tank hot then my fan can handle.

Is 83-84 too much? Any suggestions?

A clip on fan does wonders.

Dude you have an apex!!!! Just use a simple fan, like the one linked above or a JBJ C-Breeze.

Set it so when temperature is above 81, fan will turn on.

I've been using my old tunze aquawind but the best it does is bring down my temp around 80.5-81. Im thinking I should probably raise the sunpower up 4 more inches. Its current at 7" above water line. This is my first shallow tank, so I'm not really sure what's the best height.

Should 11-12" above waterline work?

I think 7inches away is too close if you're looking to get away without a chiller/fans. My Hydra 52 is 14 inches from the water line in my Fushion 30L and I hit a maximum of 80 degrees at my top "noon" light output. And my heater (hooked up to Apex) kicks onkeeps my temp between 78 and 80.
