Starting a new tank (currently cycling) and in my sump, where the refugium will be is currently empty. I was just going to simply put Live rock in it, and Chaeto... but after reading about Miracle mud and the potential effects, it's making me wonder if I should put 5lbs of it in my sump.

Thoughts? Anyone using it? Waste of money? Let me know!

If it was me I would just put the chaeto in your sump. Frankly, I would not put anything in the sump except equipment but if you have a reason to want macroalgae, then that is really all you need in there. Maybe one larger chunk of live rock that is easily removed.

Having a sump with a bunch of rock, mud, macro, etc was a big PITA for me. Bare sumps are great IMO. So easy to maintain. I don't see the point for having more live rock in a sump. Unless your main DT is devoid of it, I don't think it is necessary. I think we generally over estimate how much live rock is needed for our tanks. We stuff DT so full of rock that we can't get a scraper to fit on the sides of the tank and then cram more rock into the sump or back chambers. LOL!

Thanks you for your comment :) I suppose I'll pass on the mud and just run live rock / Chaeto in it.

A 5 pound bag should last you a long time I'd think in a Pico, you'd use a few Oz, but what could you put it in ? Small sump
