herranton
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-SEL30M35-30mm-mount-Macro/dp/B0054I54JU Would this be a good choice for my Sony A5000 DSLR to get some great close up coral photos? The Sony e-mount lens that would work well for taking pics of the tank is $1100. That 30mm just won't give you results you are happy with. I would look into getting an adapter so you can put an older macro lens on the camera. I would look into old canon fd macro lenses. You will need one with an aperture ring on the lens (which most of them should have). It would be about $100 total if you can wait for a good deal. And Under $50 if you use a cheaper 3rd party fd lens. Adapter: http://www.amazon.com/Fotasy-NAFD-E-Mount-Camera-Adapter/dp/B00EDBT440 Lens: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/canon/fdresources/fdlenses/fdmacro/100macro.htm (buy on ebay) You set the camera to whatever the shutter priority mode is and set the shutter to 1/100th to 1/250th or maybe a bit faster. Use the aperture ring to control your depth of field and exposure. Probably set 100 iso. You can play with these settings and watch how it effects the image. You will have to use manual focus, but it isn't like the tank is very deep(front to back) so the focus wont be too hard. You can also focus by slightly moving the camera closer and farther away if you aren't going to mount it on a tripod. This way isn't nearly as user freindly as the $1100 Sony lens, but it should give you similar iq and is much much cheaper. You will just need to practice. Link to comment
