Looking for a new wave maker /Power head for a Bio Cube 29

So I'm in the market for a new powerhead/ wavemaker for my 29 Gallon Coralife Biocube.

I've been running a koralia nano pump - 425 for about 2 years with a Colbalt Mj1200 as the return pump.

So far I'm looking at a Tunze Turbelle Nanostream 6020 or a Jeboa RW 8.

I'm wanting to upgrade because from time to time I have dead spots and I see crude building up.

any advice?

Thanks!!

I don't have any experience with it yet as I am in the process of starting my first reef. For what its worth I just ordered the RW4 that will be going in my 27 gallon cube. From everything I've read the RW8 would be overkill for my tank. It will still be a while before I am setup, so I may use it in my 75 gallon freshwater tank to see how it performs and get a general idea on how much water it moves.

Budget? If the budget allows I'd get a MP10, new or used. I just got mine today and all I can say is wow, it puts out some serious water movement but it's so spread out that it doesn't cause a sand storm.

I have the mp10 on a 15"x16"x11.5" 15g, it's bouncing off the front wall about 12" off the sand, turned up to about half way and it hasn't moved a grain of sand yet. The Tunze 6040 is another good option, I have one of those too but it's a bit much for my tank.

Yup I got one used on here and it moves water like nobody's business

Thanks for the heads up, I'll search for a used one because I'm not looking to spend more than $150 on one.

That's definitely enough- MP10s resell for $100-$130 usually here on NR.

I'll tell you, I've got a BC29 with the stock pump and an rw4. I keep the rw4 on low because otherwise its a sandstorm.

I'm not sure what the return pump is rated at but I upgraded mine to a tunze silence 1073.008 and removed the locline from the return bulkhead sit comes out in a wide flow. This combined with a mp10 makes for some excellent turbulent flow.

I ran a RW-4 on my BC29 for a while, worked fine but I wanted to randomize the flow. Ended up with an MP10 now and everything is happier.

I ended up with the RW 4 and I'm pleased with the flow so far. Got it for $49.99... I love that my LFS match online pricing.

If you have a controller (apex), you can program the rw4 to your liking and the amount of control is endless. I run two rw4's via apex in a 22g and have no dead spots, nor does it kick up the sand (after programming the right intensity). I would clean it every 4 - 6 months or if there's build up, sooner.

A large spoon, stir vigorously!

Honestly, anything you want will work, R-4/8 is a good powerhead and price effective. However, MP-10's are kind of the golden standard which most people judge other pumps.
