Cycling question

Hi all,

I have been into saltwater aquariums for about 6 years and recently got rid of my 4fter for a 63 litre Nano.

I have a question about cycling a tank. I have setup my nano with natural saltwater and live rock that was in the LFS live rock tank for approx 2 weeks before i brought it. I have not had any noticeable cycle but have had some diatoms on the sand bed. Is this normal because i have used cured rock and natural saltwater????

I have sold my other tank now and have my ocellaris clown pair and some Rics waiting to go into the new tank.

Can anyone please let me know what they think i should do. Should i wait for another couple of weeks, or given the circumstances do you think that it would be safe to put the fish/corals in.

Cheers,

Ben...

Hmmm... you mean those purified bottled up ocean water? or you went to beach and got it yourself?

Yeah actual water from out in the middle of the ocean I live on the coast and my LFS collects it by boat. Or doesn't it need to cycle if it's the real deal???

I think you still need to cycle because you got your rocks from lfs holding tank and i would imagine there will be some die offs... diatom is sign of cycling so, if it were me,I would wait.

Ok no worries, how long would you wait for to see if anything happens?

well... when diatom slows down, and ammonia and nitrite is 0 then i would do some waterchange and give it a go.
