Momma clown has gone psychotic

I have a mated pair of false percs they are about 9 years old. I just got a new light (current Orbit marine) and at the end of its lighting cycle with the blues on I noticed the female harassing the hell out of the male. So much so that he is missing some of his fins. I was horrified.

I tuned the moonlights off and she stopped. I turned them back on and she began harassing the hell out of the male again. I tuned them back off and she suddenly stops. Goes up to him and behaves normally.

Is it possible that under the new light she recognizes him as an intruder?

The lounge has a fish thread right?

but ya, I'd say its possible, although I haven't read anything about fish going nuts under moonlights in tanks. Not really familiar with the orbit marine but will it let you skip cycling and just let ya turn off and on? That'd be all i would bother to do to fix that situation.

Yeah I think it can no problem. If that's the case that kinda blows the ramp down feature of the light is pretty cool. I just checked them again with the light off and they are chillin normally. Maybe she will get use to it..ill have to see.

yeh maybe theres a way to end it before the moonlight kicks on so you still get other functionality. Like keep it on its phase setting but plug it into a timer and set it to turn the whole unit off a little before the moonlight kicks on.

...he is running for his life and is all beat up. Holy crap

they are fine with them off. Im convinced that his appearance under the lights is the cause of this. I'm glad I was observing or he might have been a goner...

yeh doesn't sound like it. she would also be picking at a spot on the rocks repeatedly getting a spot rdy for the eggs... sounds like yours just thinks the male is ugly as sin under the blue lights.

fun fact red light district used to have actual red lighting to hide skin "blemishes"... blue must do the opposite.
