emkovar
My zoas have been doing very well for the past few weeks, but now my Captain America is unhappy. It has 2 polyps and the biggest one has been partially closed for the last couple of days. It has some white spots over the bodies of both polyps so I immediately thought that it might be zoa pox. The only thing that makes me think it might not be is there was a single apstaisa that had migrated closer to the zoa and appeared almost to be touching it. It has since moved away and I was able to get rid of it, but it seems that the closure of the zoa and the proximity of the apstaisa coincided.... Not sure if they are related or if the stress of the apstaisa made the zoa more susceptible to the pox? I can peroxide dip this one and ive ordered some Furan-2, but it wont be here for a couple of days. Link to comment
Nanofreak79
Those look like captain America palys....maybe a washed out pic, but I don't see zoas? zoa pox doesn't affect the paly IME. I have some palys that get those little white spots. Some will argue palys can get them, but I've been collecting and reading on these for years. I've had zoa pox, before, more than once, it looks like this- 20150628-105700-1 by -Nanofreak79- Closed polyps can mean lots of things. If there fairly. New try moving them to higher/lower flow higher/lower in the tank. Looks like there freshly glued onto the rock? No? Or if you really want to give them a dip, although I don't advise it. Furan isn't a for sure miracle cure either, but usually does the job on zoanthids. Good luck, oh, aphasia stings are strong too. Link to comment
emkovar
Thanks for the reply, They are likely Palys, honestly im not sure. They have been in the tank for 3-4 weeks and the tank has been up for a couple of months. If it is an apstasia sting, can it recover? Link to comment
MikeTR
These are captain america palys. It's typical for palys in general to incorporate sand in their stalks which explains the white dots. Link to comment

My captain america palys have white spots all along the stalks. I also thought it was zoa pox at first but they have grown fine and have had no adverse affects in the year that I've had them.
