Dry rock was cycled in a 5 gallon bucket while the PicO was being repaired due to chips in the front pane. After being set up and stable for over a week I have placed two zebra hermits in the tank and I've began cleaning and moving zoas from the picotope to cover the rock. I always forget how much fun setting up a new tank is, placing coral and watching the scape take shape is one of my favorite parts of reefing.

Equipment List:

PicO skim 2.0

3 gal Picotope upgraded to PicO 5 gal AIO  upgraded to IM10

Vortech MP10QD

Nanobox mini tide

Hydor smart level ATO upgraded to Smart ATO micro

Livestock List:

DaVinci Clownfish

Pink Streaked Wrasse

5 dwarf zebra hermit crabs

Skunk cleaner

Trochus snails

Nassarius snails

Dwarf cerith snails

Coral:

Birds nest

Acan

Merletti

Mini Scoly

Lepto

Ricordia

Assorted zoanthids

Two pico reefs deserve two pico threads! This will be a thread dedicated to the documentation of my 5 gallon PicO.

The skimmer is great! It is still breaking in, but it fits perfectly in the first chamber in the back! I LOVE zebra hermits.

Awesome pair of tanks. following :)

 Thanks

Nice!!

:flower:

So I've been cleaning and working on the frags all morning. Cutting the frag plugs down. Removing those nasty vermetid snails from everything in sight! I've glued quite a few frags down after some coral dips and close inspections.

I will need to invest in another light soon. I currently have the Tide split between the two tanks from the bleeding light, but It won't last forever. I'd love another Tide, but I don't think that is in the budget right now.

My tiny cleaner shrimp that I've had in my picotope for a little while also made the journey into the PicO. A small clump of macro is hidden in the back behind the rock for now.

These little fellas are some of the most entertaining critters in my tanks. I love how small they are. The two currently in the tank are so ornery though! They've been climbing the silicone seams since they got settled into the tank. As I've been cleaning I've watched them stop at the waterline and drop back to the sand bed. I knew they'd eventually summit the glass, and one happened to do just that while I was typing this up. I watched him skydive onto the carpet before putting the poor fellow back into the tank. Three seconds later he is climbing the glass again, so I get to look at the plexiglass lid from my picotope for awhile.

Things are still moving along. I moved the nanobox over to this tank late last night. When I got home from clinicals, all the zoas were open and looking good. The little skunk cleaner is like a little puppy when he sees me. He scrambles over the whole tank to follow me pissing off all of the corals! There are just a few more higher end zoas left in the 3 gal that I'd like to move over before putting up a new FTS.

I stop into the LFS quite frequently since it is on my way home from the hospital. Sadly they haven't been able to locate any of my fish yet, but I'm still holding out hope. I've included several different trimmas, greenbands as well as a pink streak wrasse. Certainly they will eventually find one of these. It is hard to go look at the fish swimming in the tanks and hold out for a fish I REALLY want.

Good news I have a lid coming for the PicO that should arrive on Friday!! B)

This looks like it'll be awesome once you're all sorted. What else ya need?

I think extra flow in here from an mp10 would be great. If I get ahold of some grape monticap I'd also like a frag mag to mount it to the wall. Other than that more zoas, whichever goby pair the LFS can find me and time for everything to grow!

Sounds like an excellent plan to me :)

:) Your tank was where I saw it originally. I love the purple of it. Doesn't seem to be a whole lot of purple coral that I think I could handle, but the monticap seems like a sturdy one to try!

Super hardy! I sold quite a few frags of it. And kimberbee has a frag. Since you are in the Chicago area, maybe you guys could do a swap sometime :).

I have some frags of Gena's grape monti cap that I'll probably be putting up for sale in another week or two, if you're interested. Gotta pass it on :)

But if you can swap local that would be WAY cheaper since you're not paying shipping.

That would be fun! I'm hoping to visit there sometime in the next month or two. I think she is going to take one of my RFAs, so that might be perfect. It is awesome how interconnected the reef community is.

I'll keep that in mind! You can just bag up the whole 4 gal and send it my way! :D I think I need to boost my donations to the plasma center somehow. "But you don't understand... I NEED those corals!!" I'm sure it'll go over wonderfully.

I live in Indiana and have been to Illinois a few times. I was over there last year to pick up some equipment I purchased off Ebay. All I can say is holy corn fields lol.

Yes, I have both varieties of Genacap in my tank!! The grape is growing slowly up my rocks and I think adjusted to the change better than the seasons greetings. Once they grow out, I'd be happy to share! But I do think it could be a while.

I like Illinois. I think it's prettier than Indiana. Also, the wind turbines! They have a ton of those. I just drove through Illinois on my way back west and I think Illinois had the most of the states we drove through.

Coming from a Nebraska native....I feel at home among the corn fields. Go Huskers!!

Awesome! I am a patient person. (Have to be in this hobby) I'd love a tiny frag whenever you think they might be ready!

I do love the wind turbines. Although they are VERY loud when you are out tent camping. :o I can't say that I've been to Indiana, but I don't mind Illinois at all. The parts I've visited have been mostly country/forestry/farmland. I'm an outdoors kinda gal. Too few trees and grass makes me anxious.

Nice set up! So only the PicO Skim 2.0 for filtration?

Heya Tibbsy! I currently have the PicO Skim 2.0....which I don't think I have dialed in perfectly yet. My first attempt at using a skimmer legitimately. I also have filter floss and the nano packs of chemipure blue in the back of the tank. I have a small sprig of Dragons breath in the display also.

I never heard them since we were in the car. Would be neat to hear. They remind me of something from outerspace, like from War of the Worlds lol.

I try and go to Boyscout camp every year as one of the leaders. There are some quite a distance away...but when it is quiet at night all you hear is.. WHOOOM WHOOOM WHOOOM WHOOOM. Or if they are out of sync it goes like WOOOOM woom woom WOOOOM woom WOOOOM.

This is the tank with the new lid on it. I think it looks pretty fancy indeed!

Usually my bentos are homecooked food instead of chinese leftovers...but this kinda gives you a feel for one of my other hobbies!

And last but not least. I am the proud owner of a brand new Nanobox Tide with bluefish. It won't be here for a bit, but I can't wait to get it set up. This means that I can have two nice tanks going. I will probably move the 3gal out into the living room in order to reduce the light in my room at night. I could turn the moonlights off...but I really like the effect they give.

I'm a sucker for moonlight in a tank.

Can't help it...Lime green is my favorite color!! Plus, Dave makes the BEST lights. I couldn't be happier with my current Tide.
