Wartskin Angler Feeding

Hey. I am getting a wartskin angler and am wondering what to feed it. Well I know what to feed it (white shrimp, ghost shrimp, guppies and mollies) but when and how much do I feed it. I understand that a angler can starve itself if you overfeed it, so if someone could right me a feeding schedule for it, that would be great. For each fish it eats, how much do I serve at a time and how often? Thanks!

I'd feed 2 to 3 times a week (like every third day). Freshwater fish are relatively poor in nutritional value compared to saltwater prey. Live saltwater fish should be quarantined first to help avoid introducing ich.

Anglers will overeat and they have slow metabolisms. If they eat too much at one time, the food does not properly digest and it can be fatal.

Feed 3-4 food items no larger than the space between it's eyes (so for a small angler that is pretty small) every 3-4 days.

I would try and get them to eat frozen tilapia, haddock, cod, or other fish that does not contain thiaminase for 80% of it's diet and supplement with gut packed ghost shrimp, mollies, squid, clam, etc for the other 20%

A feeding stick may be helpful to get it started on dead food. http://www.lionfishlair.com/foodandnutrition/toolsofthetrade.shtml

I always fed mine large krill frozen krill pieces and silversides with a feeding stick.

I had thought krill was to be avoided due to possibly causing lockjaw.

Never knew that. Haven't had one in a long time but used to keep a predator tank with eel, triggers, lions, and frog fish/anglers. Always used krill and silversides.
