underwatermonk
Hello everyone. I've had my cube for 4 years now and am looking at getting a bigger tank as well. I am concidering hooking both tanks up to the same sump system for greater water volume for both tanks. I wonder what is the best way to get the water out of and in to the cube without any major mods. I've scoped out the e-shops overflow boxes and some other pipe based syphons but was wondering about others and their experiances. If there is a thread like this please post a link. Thank you. underwatermonk
Wow, not one person has any experiance with overflows in a bio cube. Looks like I'm going to have to go it alone. Link to comment
LongDoggy
I plumbed a proof of concept with PVC for my 14g Biocube. I built with 1/2 inch PVC and ran it on a separate old tank in workshop. Plan was to have chamber 2 be where the "U" shaped overflow would go. The return would come up and return through the standard return outlet. I was thinking I would still run stock AIO pump in chamber 3, and I would have to plumb the two return lines together. I had a 5g hex tank laying around that was going to be my sump/fuge. It fit perfectly in the BC stand. I decided not to do this because it seemed like a crammed design and I wanted it to all look clean and simple. Of course I wanted to increase volume and wanted to use the sump for a decent skimmer and DSB; but my main reason was to decrease heat by adding volume. I was running stock BC PC lighting and was having temp issues where it would run 82-86. Caused big problems. I ended up installing a retro LED kit and an ATO. Temps are great and steady around 79 degrees and all is stable. I was pretty close to implementing this though. Sorry I can't be of more help. I think it is totally possible though. You'd have to do a little cutting of the rear part of the hood and some finagling but eventually you should be able to achieve your vision. Good luck. Link to comment
