im starting a new tank, 20 gal long. i've had a saltwater tank before , but not with corals. I have not stocked the tank yet, not even started. but whats some good beginners corals/inverts for this size tank. lighting I know is important....ive got my old 48w t5 setup from my last tank, but I got a new light...its a 36w led for corals, so that's 1.8 w per gal. any help or feedback/suggestions

Hi! Welcome to Nano-Reef! :)

Xenia and Mushrooms are pretty much the easiest corals to keep, along with Kenya tree and yellow polyps. Google images of them- they are pretty awesome!

Once you get more experience and are familiar with your corals, you can probably progress to "LPS" corals, typically Duncan or Hammer coral

ok thanks. another confusing thing is how and when to feed them? I've done research on this and I know the tank will give them some pods but that isn't always enough....

For soft corals like those, you don't need to feed them. Just do your occasional water changes to replenish the nutrients :)

Green star polyps on the back wall of the tank looks awesome and they are so easy. Red Sea pink xenia is really nice and easy, but it will need to be corralled or it will become a weed. Put it on an isolated rock out in the sand. Clownfish will often host in green star polyps or xenia, so you don't need an difficult, expensive anemone for them. There are several inexpensive mushrooms, such as red or blue, that are difficult to kill. Yellow polyps can be awesome if they get enough light.

Thanks for the great info. And that also answered another question because id like to have at least a fish or two, and a clown was a thought ....and I didn't know they would pair with that type of coral.
