fishguy122
Hi everyone, im fish guy (or tom). I really like my fish (I have a 15g hillstream biotope and a nano planted bowl which is absent of fish as I don't know what to put in it). Recently I've gotten into nano tanks, especially bowls/vases. I saw some nano SW bowls and they were brilliant. So my question is: what will I need to do my first nano reef/SW tank thing (could be vase) and how do I, well, do salt water aquariums. P.s. what fauna could. Put in it? And how would circulation be achieved? Cheers Fish guy Link to comment
seabass
Hello, welcome to N-R.com. Read through some of these threads: http://www.nano-reef.com/index.php?s=6cba907a85f3641b56740f9c9bb9df33&app=googlecse#gsc.tab=0&gsc.q=vase Link to comment
fishguy122
Thanks for the welcome . As I'm a salt water (literally never done it before) how would go about doing WCs? I understand circulation, substrate and live rock, but how does salinity work and stuff like that? Link to comment
piano15
I'm not really sure how one achieves a sw tank in a vase and I say this because of the equipment needed not to mention it may be very hard to keep everything under control in something that small. Hopefully someone with a very small system will chime in. As for saltwater systems, do you want corals only, fish only, or both? I would recommend reading a lot and going no smaller than 10gallon tank Link to comment
righttirefire
The saltwater thing is fun... the water evaporates so the salinity is constantly rising. The smaller the water volume and greater the water surface area to atmosphere the faster the evaporation. I started with a 20 gallon tall. Almost 0 evaporation for 7 days. The 20 long I run now almost 1/2 cup a day of evaporation. The goal is consistency. I'm extremely happy I started with 20. I don't like the tall because of the light penetration. And I don't like the long because of the faster evaporation. And shadows from a 24" light fixture. But I love my 20 long Link to comment
