Same species fish in a nano tank...

Hi all

So the goal of my 30 gallon cube was to house all non-aggressive fish.

I read that many fish, including firefish are very peaceful fish but will get aggressive towards the same species if they aren't mated pairs.

I have a royal gramma and red firefish, but I had to pick up a purple firefish from my LFS "midnight sale" yesterday because the purple firefish was only $7.50!

I checked this morning and both the red and purple firefish were in the same cave prior to the lights coming on. When lights came on, they are both just chilling, not minding each other at all. They seem to stay on opposite sides of the tank though.

Since they are ok with each other now, am I safe? Or can aggression come at any time?

What's your guy's experience with housing same species fish in nano tanks?

Thanks!

My experience is... aggression can come out over time. The fish get comfortable and fat, or they age... and are no longer juvies... and decide to stake out some territory. Each individuals fishes personality also matters.

I would just wait it out and keep an eye on them. It sounds like it could work out just fine, but time will tell.
