Chon's Fusion 30L

I always wanted a long tank. I've had a cube in the past, and recently started a Fusion 10. Well the bug has bit me BAD! I decided to start this Fusion 30 as the 10 was just a little too small. I'm starting this thread to keep a kind of journal for my tank. I hope you enjoy!

I have one on my Fusion 10 and you are right, awesome upgrades. But the only thing ill be running in them is floss, so the added expense is just not worth it to me. Most likely I'll be running a reactor at some point for both carbon and GFO. But that could all change so I'll keep your recommendation in mind.

So I'm about to throw this Apex Jr. out the window..... Can't get the damn thing to connect to Fusion and it says test mode 15 on the display. I've been messing with it for the last two hours

On a better note, the stand is skinned and ready for some trim and doors. Also figured out how to set up the false wall for the electronics. Hopefully I can get everything done this weekend.

Post em here?

Also, how is the access when the electronic false wall is open? Enough to add all the crazy wiring?

Do you have a leak detector in the cabinet? A $5 investment can save $$$$$$$

No leak detector yet, but thats a good idea! Should be enough room to add all of it. the side wall also pops out for access

Hi Chon,

I have same request as jcreefer and Harryjsinger...can you post or pm plans/specs on your stand build? I like your setup and am thinking about reentering the hobby after about a 35 yr absense.

Thanks for taking interest in the stand! Welcome to Nano Reef! Let me first say that I searched all over this site for ideas when building this stand. Lots of great info!

The 2x4 frame is 36.5" x 15.5" x 36". I built the bottom and top frames first, then added the inside uprights. If you look in the first pic you can see that i notched out the 2x4s at the ends 1.5" x 3.5" to sit flush with the outside of the frame. I then added my front and rear 2x4s making the butt joints that you see on the front of the stand. When you notch the inside 2x4s you end up with a nice looking corner that you can easily cut selves out for. The center support is really just there so when the doors are installed they will have something to rest against. I dont think its actually needed for a tank this size. The back and top are OSB then sheeted with 3/16ths birch plywood. I would suggest using plywood instead of OSB but I had some laying around and figured Im not running a sump. After sheeting the trim is installed around the top. I ended up having to paint it with a roller and brush. My paint sprayer broke during the primer coat. Not fun.

The area for the electronics has a wall between the center post and back wall being held in place with heavy duty cabinet magnets.

The Water is Wet!! Got it started earlier this week. I left some room for the rock coming from the 10 gallon.

Love everything about this. Although I would have mounted the Apex display on the other side of the false wall. So you can open the door and see the info.
