smeagol108
So I iust got this test and tried it and got 0.00. Is that possible to have zero phosphate? Just figured I would check. First time I ever tested for it. Link to comment
Marc.The.Shark
Do you have the phosphate or the phosphorus checker? Link to comment
smeagol108
It says phosphate on the front. It's green. Link to comment
NYfishies
Mine always reads 0.00. I have to wonder if it even works. Link to comment
smeagol108
Yea that's what I thought. Lol. Interested to see what others say. Link to comment
GTi
Mine always reads 0.00. I thought it was broken and measured some city water. It's not broken. If you have low levels of phosphate, you may need the checker that is ultra low range. Link to comment
basser1
I use the Hanna checkers (Alk, Ca, and PO4). I find them to be useful in giving you an idea of where your parameters are. I have a hard time with test kits that use color guides as sometimes the changes can be subtle to detect. I have the phosphate checker, H713. I will sometimes get a 0.00 reading too. But keep in mind the accuracy rate is ±0.04 ppm ±4% of reading. If I'm suspicious of a reading, I'll do another test to see where the numbers are. Link to comment
smeagol108
Thanks for the feedback. Yes u are correct is does have an error percent of .04 and is supposed to read down to .01 increments. So it its reading zero it could very well be .04. I'm gonna test my city water and see where that is. Link to comment
LebaneseDlight
You probably run GFO. Stop running GFO and you'll see it quickly climbs. I use a. Hana Phosphate checker and it's not always 0.0, just when I'm overdoing GFO. My water goes from 0.00 to 0.06 in about 3 days after I stop my reactor. And I only use like a tablespoon on bulk GFO, a quarter of the recommended dose. Link to comment
Marc.The.Shark
Ah, ok. I use the Phosphorus checker & while it's mostly 0, if I feed heavy it usually climbs a little. So, i don't always get a zero reading. I assume it's halfway accurate cause I don't have any nusience algae outbreaks. Link to comment
smeagol108
I use cpe so that does have some gfo in it. Was never sure off effectiveness of it. Good to know it's working though prob a little to well. Lol Link to comment
markalot
I disliked the Hanna phosphate but I just bought the Phosphate ULR and it seems to work well. I got a converted .018 PO4, which the other checker might report as 0. I'm still not sure just how accurate it is, and I despise these packets. Link to comment

I have the phosphorus ULR (I think this is what you meant?) and I find it to be reliable. I've been using it for 2 years now and the results are consistent. Link to comment

Cruzersoul
I use Hanna for both ULR Phosphate and Alkalinity. When I initially purchased them, I verified their readings with a few traditional tests from both Red Sea and Salifert. What I found was that the results were nearly identical. I also have Hanna's Calcium checker, but the results obtained differ greatly from both Red Sea and Salifert, so i tend to stick to those instead. Link to comment
