So I got this JBJ 28 AIO from craigslist for $50, planning on using it as a display refugium with my original JBJ 28.

Seemed like too much work, so I decided to turn it into a fish hatchery! I have a 300 gallon Cichlid tank that constantly has babies, but they always get eaten. Some of the babies are pretty rare- so I decided to turn the JBJ 28 into a grow-out/hatchery! Its been running for over a year, and I constantly add new babies (1 cm) and let them grow until they're about an inch.

Then, I take them to the LFS and sell them for about $5-$20 each!

SPECS:

  • Nanocube 28 (Cheap freshwater version)
  • Upgraded return pumps
  • Bag of fluval carbon and floss in media basket

The larger tank is now defunct due to a heater failure though. Just a few Cichlids left, but the babies from the cube will help!

That's pretty cool Harry.

Thanks! I was thinking about turning it into a quarentine tank, but then I would lose the Reef- income!

No, there's too much rock and I don't have the coordination/reflexes for that. I just sweep the net along the bottom during a water change and get a few dozen

Nice!

Thanks! I just got my (prized) pair of clownfish and theoretically could breed them in there! (Once the eggs are apparent)
