Havok_9
So after my 30g tank crash Im taking all precautions and dipping frags before they go into my 16 nuvo. Found about 5 of these tiny guys squirm off of a small rock of mushrooms. At first I thought they were small brittle starfish but each only had three legs- two short ones and a longer tail-like one. What the hell are these? Link to comment
Pinner Reef
They are starfish... those little guys are usually harmless Link to comment
Havok_9
I figured as much, I was a little bummed to kill them off because I understand they're actually pretty beneficial to a reef setup. But it was just weird to me that they only had three legs, two small one long? Link to comment
Pinner Reef
Ya they must have shed some which is not uncommon. But you're right they are really helpful scavengers. Link to comment
Fnard
Have checked nitrate and ammonia lately? High levels tend to make them drop legs like that. Link to comment
Havok_9
They came off of frags straight from the store, hadn't been in my tank yet. Maybe stress from being shipped to the store, moved around, etc made them shed? Wasn't taking chances on critters I couldn't 100% identify tho. I've only got a single clown and a few softies in the tank now, my ammonia and nitrates are at 0ppm. Thanks for the feedback! Link to comment
