myarmolich
Hello, I am currently in the market for an Apex and was wondering if anyone has any insight with buying an apex new vs used. Is there anything I should look out for when buying a used Apex? I am currently looking at the $550 standard Apex system with a Lab Grade pH, but im considering buying used to save some money and buy livestock. Let me know if you have any insight! Link to comment
drexel
Unless you get one for a great deal, it's not worth. I was considering this myself when I started my son's 22g, but decided to go new. If anything goes wrong, at least you're covered by warranty, otherwise, you're out of pocket if anything breaks down. For me, it was peace of mind, especially not knowing the history of a used unit, unless you're buying from a trustworthy friend? Just my two pennies. Link to comment

braaap
Neptune has GREAT customer service. They only charge $35 for repairs of things like the head unit or energy bars. So if you can save $100 do it. I've bought all my Apex systems used and I've never had an issue. Link to comment
jestep
I'd save the money and get used and skip the lab grade PH probe entirely. PH is such a long distance measurement I can't see any benefit in needing super accurate measurement, and I even run a calcium reactor on my large tank. Link to comment
