Getting house sprayed...How to protect the tank?

Guess this would be the right place to post this.

Well first off it's not even set up yet but we have been seeing some brown recluse spiders in the house lately so we are having the house sprayed. We normally have it sprayed every few months anyways. But with this one they are going to put bombs in the attic to make the spiders come out and then spray the house heavily. I was planning on setting my nano up this weekend. They are going to spray Tuesday and we have to be out of the house for 24 hours. I will probably go ahead and set it up and put a trash bag over it and tape the edges really well since it will just be beginning cycling.

In the future after its stocked and we just have it sprayed like normal what preventive measures would you recommend I do? They normally just spray around all the baseboards. Not having it sprayed is not a option, if the wife sees a few bugs it is getting sprayed. Haha.

And the tank is a all in one nano, so at least there's not a simp to worry about too.

Try searching the topic. I remember in the last months someone had their apartment building sprayed and it nuked their tank... might be wise to wait until after...

I got my house flea bombed when we first moved in. I took 2 towels and placed its tightly over my tank and took duct tape and taped all the way around as tight as possible. My tank was fine.

Wait to set it up, and remove all of your equipment while they do their thing (if it's not safe for you, it's not safe for a reef tank). If you have to, place the live rock in buckets of saltwater to get them out of the house.

For the future sprayings, I'd be tempted to do the same thing. However, that's not very practical; so I'd probably just remove reef related stuff that's outside the tank (food, buckets, hoses, nets, pumps, etc) and cover/seal the tank. I'm thinking a thick plastic drop cloth (used for painting) to cover the tank. I'd also make sure that I had fresh activated carbon installed just prior to them spraying.

If it's a regular thing, I might even make a simple frame that I could place over the tank (giving the running tank plenty of air inside the frame). Then put the plastic drop cloth over the frame (again, using fresh activated carbon to help remove any contaminants that get in the air and might get into the water).

They are only bombing the attic to get the spiders to come out so the spray in the house will kill them, and the main reason we have to leave is because it causes the spider to get very aggressive. I like the idea of making a removable frame to give some more airspace. But really I would like to know if something is going to happen before I get anything in the tank but is the reason I was going to set it up before hand. But I don't know how I would tell if there was only live rock in there.

I doubt that you'll be able to determine much by setting up the tank with LR prior to a pesticide bomb in the attic and spraying in the house. Just seems like an unnecessary risk to take.

Yeah I didn't think so. I'll just wait a day or two after it before I set it up.
