Tropi's Ocean Free 34l/9g nano

So after upgrading my 23g that I had running for 8 months to a 40 gallon and losing all my livestock except 1 head from my hammer and a turbo snail during the tranfer, then having problems with that tank leaking and just taking up to much space I decided to downgrade to an Ocean Free 34litre/9 gallon nano.

It's my first time attempting a tank this small and it's been set up since April 1st. I used rock, sand and water all from the existing one I was taking down and transferred the little amount of new livestock I had over to it and so far everything has been going well.

I actually think I'm enjoying this tank more than I did the others and maintenance is so much quicker and easier, especially water changes :)

Display: Ocean Free 9 gallon (31cm x 31cm x 36cm)

Circulation: Hydor Koralia Nano 900 and stock return pump

Lighting: Stock light

Skimmer: Stock skimmer

Heater: Eheim Jager 25 watt

FTS from a couple of weeks ago, I haven't got around to taking any new photos yet. Will try to get a new one up soon.

I'm hoping to be ordering a new light sometime this week and am trying to decide between the Kessil a160 and AI Prime. Does anyone know if the a160 is compatible with the spectrual controller or if the AI Prime needs to be connected to wifi constantly to actually work? I'm not to sure how it works and am a bit worried that I would run up a huge internet bill if I went that way.

Decided to go with the Prime, just ordered it in white so now just have to wait for it to be sent and get here.

Nice tank! I think the AI prime will be great!

Where's the updated photo? :P

Do you have a list/idea what corals are in there? I see some diatom- how is your CUC?

Thanks

Finally got the new pic on to the computer, it's not very good because it's a phone shot.

Finally moved the tank a couple days ago during a water change, tried to clean it up a bit but I have to try near the sand bed again more. It's now on a bedside table that I put wheels on.

Corals:

  • Elegance
  • Hammer
  • Torch
  • Zoas
  • Mushrooms
  • Green star polyps
  • Duncans
  • Ricordea
  • Bubble tip anemone

Hoping to find some blastos to add some time in the future

CUC: so far

  • 1 Trochus Snail
  • 2 Nassarius Snails
  • 2 Turbo Snails
  • 4 Stomatella Snails

Will try to take some pics of the corals tomorrow once I've moved them around a bit, the Nass snails keeping knocking them over in the sandbed.

  • 3 weeks later...

I lost both my clownfish :( I was busy one week so was feeding them flake food instead of their normal brine and mysis, I watched to make sure they were eating and they were but then towards the end of the week I noticed they were both very skinny so I'm guessing they weren't eating as much as I thought and the next day one died and the other a few days later. That's the only thing I can think of for the cause of it, everything else is going good though.

Got the Prime in the mail last week, they were out of stock for the mounts and because I'm so impatient and didn't want to wait for it :P I went with the hanging kit instead, which works out better because it makes it easier for me to get into the back chamber now.

Took awhile for me to get the hang of it though, but I have it set to my liking for the moment until I change my mind again. So far I'm really liking it, it's the first controllable light I've had so it's really nice to be able to set everything how I want.

New tank shot after I did a proper clean on the weekend

Next purchase will hopefully be an ATO in a few weeks.
