Is 4x24w T5HO over a 20 gallon long tank considered high light or moderate? Bulbs are ATI, fixture has individual reflectors.

I mean really,it depends on what you want to keep, how high you hang it,ballast used, reflectors used.

I have a FNI 4 bulb, with all ATI bulbs, crummy Taylor ballast (stock) and molded "individual" reflectors and I'm getting 600 par at the fixture,300+ about 4" down at the water level,my frag racks about 5"-6" from the light are getting 275-250 and the bottom of the tank about 10" from the bulbs is getting 150-175.

AquaticLife and better should yield way better par and useable light.

I read one of Grims post about the aquatic life fixture and he was recommending them over tek systems and got a 15% part increase removing the splash shield

I don't think 15 percent more par is really worth taking off the splash guard. The salt spray will eventually corrode your reflectors.

I don't think it's too much. I run a 4 bulb 4x39w over 12 inch tall mixed reef. Never had a single issue with too little or too much light on the tank. IMO it's perfect amount.

Unless doing full blown softy tank than might be much

I used an aquatic life 4*24w over my 20 long. I never measured the par but I was able to keep clams and sps on the sand bed with no problems. And my bulbs were 2 blue+, 1 purple+, and 1 UV lighting super actinic.
