Tunze 9001 skimmer

Has anyone used this particular skimmer? I'm looking for a good skimmer to use in a 10g. This seems to be the only good one that will fit. The other I was looking at is the Reef Octopus BH50 but the Tunze seems like a better design.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Vincent

I have one in my NanoCube 24 and I'm not terribly impressed, but I'm rather inexperienced having been out of the hobby for over 15 years now (I bought the nanocube off craigslist 2 months ago). I empty the skimmer about once a week and the cup is covered in scum, but the the liquid is just tea-like - a light tea. I read in another forum some remarks about nano skimmers generally being like this.

All in all, I don't feel like it's doing a whole lot and I'm considering pulling it in favor of a refugium.

I originally bought it based on positive remarks in this forum and I see even more positive remarks ITT, and I would love more feedback from those who love there's so much.

Maybe I need to tinker with the water levels more, but right now I just don't see it being all that valuable. I'm also curious about the Eshopps Nano Skimmer and how they compare.

Both the eshopps and tunze9001 pulled good skim.the water level it sits in,is what kind of skim your get.i also got the aquamaxx ws1 skimmer and it does much better

Yep working correctly, that is what mine does as well. Though my skimmate is more a dark tea.

Hi All,

I have a question. How often should I clean my Tunze 9001 Nano Protein Skimmer?

Barry

Not often. It's kind of subjective but maybe once a year. I still have not cleaned mine out and it's going over a year. It's still collecting great skimmate so I'm not going to touch what isn't broke.

Clean the neck of the cup out though, that is where the thick goo collects.

I rinse the cup out weekly. Every few weeks I'll clean the neck with a bristle brush when the goo gets really thick. I've also cleaned the plastic deflector on the bottom a few times.. Had some cyno growing in there. But the rest of the skimmer I haven't cleaned. Its full of pineapple sponges.

Great skimmer. Super quiet and never a problem with micro bubbles. I have it on my IM30L. To me the key to its success is to combine it with an ATO. That way water level is always constant and the skimmer can be raised or lowered until it collects dark skim. I too clean the cup and neck weekly.
