aviator300
I've wondered about this since i've been in the hobby but never knew the answer so here goes. We all have seen these tiny white brittle stars that populate most every tank to some extent (and mine by the hundreds). You know, the ones that never grow more than an inch or so (tip to tip). Does anyone know exactly what species they are? I like them and when i first started reefing i was hoping they would grow larger but alas, not to be. Sooo, i've been trying to find a brittle star of a slightly larger species to add to my tank but the only thing i can find is brittle stars that are already 3 to 5 inches across. Does anyone know where you can find little ones (maybe babies) ? Link to comment
ndrobey
I think the little white ones you are talking about are asterinas. Link to comment
rone_kevin66
Could be asterina or just the mini banded brittle stars. I have a few for the red banded that came on some cheto and they are a nice little cuc addition. Link to comment
jamescstein
There are thousands of species of brittle starts. I found this article about them. According it, those 'micro' brittle stars are likely Amphipholis squamata. Link to comment
