Wander
Who all started new tanks in 2015? I have seen a lot of individual new tank threads since starting my 20" cube in January. In only a few months what shared experiences do we have? Hitchhikers? Cycle blooms of this that or the other? The Good, the Bad, and the Unexpected. Link to comment
HarryPotter
Me! Started over from scratch with the Nanocube. The tank had a 100% loss after an anenome jumped into my (uncovered) MP10. In early 2015 I started over with 20lbs live sand and a few random pieces of dry rock. Over time I've DIYed a sump to the Nanocube, bought a "broken" radion xr30w gen 3 for <200, and dealt with GHA and power outages! The picture is pretty bad, right after a sand siphoning. Let me see if I have a more high quality one! Link to comment
Addinali
This tank was stuff transferred from my NC28 and my Evolve 8 but it got setup About 4 weeks ago. Link to comment

Worst thing I have had regarding circulation pumps are snails deciding to get too close to the props. Nothing like you experienced. Glad to see you didn't call it quits. Best of luck. Addinali, I love that cap. I hope my little triangle cap frag grows to look like yours. Keep it up. My last tank was an Evovle 8 also, how did you like it? HusyBoy, is that a torch floating on the back glass? It will be interesting to see it grow out. Link to comment
Odyssey350kc
I started mine in 2015 (all the hardware, sand and tank were new, livestock and rocks from a previous tank) I have been lucky and had no real problems since I started, except for unexplained deaths of 3 fish all newly introduced to the tank. All my corals are doing great, and growing. Link to comment

Odyssey350kc
Yeah its a monti cap. It is a bit pale there. I'm pretty sure that pic was the day I transferred everything to the tank from my old 20 long. Most of the corals were looking horrible because I had not been taking care of the tank they were in due to my living situation. It looks awesome now though, bright red/orange color. I am going to update my thread tomorrow with some new pics, hopefully a real camera not my phone. Link to comment
HarryPotter
Haha I forgot about my brand new tank! Wow I feel stupid I have the NanoCube (Featured above) transferred into a JBJ RL-45. The transfer was last week, so no great coral extension yet. Im hoping to load up the right side with SPS! Link to comment
jbb
Started mine 4/2/15 , but haven't done much with it yet. Should be getting this back sometime this upcoming week Link to comment

seabass
My latest project: 100 gallon tank got wet on 04/12/15. No coral yet. Dry rock, so no hitchhikers, but had a bunch a snail eggs hatch: Lost a Fire Shrimp, but no other problems to speak of. Link to comment
DurocShark
All three of mine started this year. 9 gallon started in Jan: 70 gallon that I've *tried* to start since Jan and still isn't wet: And the 5.5 gallon that I'm taking into my office today: Link to comment
Wander
DurocShark, three tanks all at one time. Good going. What do you have left on the 70g before getting it wet? Link to comment
Laagernaught
Set this up two weeks ago. I'm preparing for a move soon and decided to take down my two tanks. I condensed some corals from my 40b and SpecV into one tank. Its a 7.5 gallon Deep blue cube. I went bare bottom and fishless to keep it clean and simple (and easy to move when the time comes). Although a "new tank" everything is mature already so everybody is pretty happy in there, especially my frogspawn which no longer has a maroon clown tearing pieces off of it . My Nanobox lights this tank perfectly and the quality of the Deep Blue tank is superb, especially for 25 bucks. I love the aesthetics and function of sand in a tank but the bare bottom looks pretty decent and of course is super easy to clean. Need to get some encrusting corals for the bottom! When I move and set up a bigger tank again I'll definitely be debating which way I'll go. In his former home Link to comment
DurocShark
DurocShark, three tanks all at one time. Good going. What do you have left on the 70g before getting it wet? Figuring out the sump and overflow, finishing the dry rock scape, figuring out what I'm going to do for sand. I'm still a few weeks away, but the biggest hurdles have been cleared. Link to comment
DurocShark
I'm in the office today just so I can plug in the 5.5: Link to comment

emkovar
I started my first SW setup at the end of April. Its a Fluval Spec V. 5lb of live rocks, 10lb of sand Ended up with a bunch of hitchhikers: a Emerald Crab a Stomatella Snail a bunch of Bristleworms Added a couple of corals about a week and a half ago, but am on vaca now so will add more when I get home again. Also plan to upgrade the lighting when I can afford it. Link to comment
Wander
Matteo, you mentioned custom biocube. What have you changed about it so far? How long has it been running this year? Link to comment

Matteo
Matteo, you mentioned custom biocube. What have you changed about it so far? How long has it been running this year? upgraded media baskets, nano skimmer, ai prime, tlf reactor, and fuge with cheato. Custom in the sense its all upgraded:) The live rock is 9 months old and the tank is a 1 month old to me Link to comment
jtgrimes
My tank I started around mothers day. I upgraded from a 12 to a 20 long. Build here - http://www.nano-reef.com/topic/360828-jtgrimes-20-gallon-long-rimless-build/ Link to comment
music4life87
I got my dream tank started. A JBJ 45 rimless. My biggest problem now is that I'm already thinking about starting more tanks. The wife is not to thrilled with me. She says this always happens with me. Every time I get started I'm already looking for another thing to build. I think I'm going to make a new night stand to sit beside my bed with a 2 gallon pico jar reef with a standpipe overflow and a 5 gallon bucket sump that will fit underneath. I'm working on some design ideas right now. I'm very excited. Link to comment
