Hi All,

i have a cyano outbreak in my 29g biocube and my local fish store guy suggested and sold me this product. I've come across mixed reviews on this product and wanted to hear if anyone has had any experience with it.

I understand that it deprives the tank of oxygen. I'm not sure how comfortable I am with that...

Any advice?

If you have a skimmer, then remove the cup and just let it overflow, and diffuse O2 into the tank. I havent used it, but know many that have with no ill effects

Thanks. Can O2 be diffused into the water column with an air stone?

I usually try a 3 day total blackout first. I've used chemo clean in the past with initial success but the cyano came back.

How old is your tank? I started my Tank in January, my cyano outbreak started in April and went away after a month. If your tank is new, let it run its course.

I found my fighting conch to be a tremendous help is ridding the Cyano (unless it was just a grand coincidence) - in two days all gone, and now I see it eating mysis cause my tank is algae free.

ive used before in my tank with no problem. I turned my skimmer off but I didnt even use an airstone however my return is pointed towards the top of the water creating a lot of surface tension agitation*. Goodluck

Actually the tank is still very new. I just added my first fish a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately, I think the fighting conch might be a bit too big for the 29g Biocube. I hear they grow to about the size of your palm.

I'm using a spin stream for the return, so I'm getting some good surface agitation.

I have one in my 20. It's 3" now, and my LFS will take it back fortunately. The thing about them is that they stay on the sandbed (and they use their 'trunk' to get algae off the base of LR), so it's been less of a nuisance than any other CUC I own - won't knock anything down. I need to shut up about my amazing conch... I never thought I'd love a snail this much.

I would let it run its course and manually remove what you can daily with a turkey baster. Also check your RODI water for PO4. Use Purigen to absorb silicates. Use GFO if your PO4 is high. Increase flow if that's needed. Anything but Chemi-Clean for a tank running it's new tank course, IMO.
