Hey guys. Been out of the game for a couple years and i think im gonna turn my 40 breeder into a Reef Tank. Thing is, the more research i do the more conflicting information i get about which lights to use. I wanna go LEDs but hanging isnt an option. I was thinking 36inch Current Orbit Marine Pros. I only plan on doing softies, but i wouldnt mine the option to expand later down the road. Long Story short, anyone have these lights with some feedback? Will they be enough light? Im assuming ill need at least 2. Thanks guys

To start, there is the Current Orbit Marine and then there is the newer Current Orbit Marine Pro. I have the Current Orbit Marine over my 20 long and I am growing a Monti cap towards the top (5" from the fixture) along with softies and LPS throughout the tank without any issue. Haven't tried acros or clams but I have seen people growing them under the same fixture towards the top of the tank.

The Current Orbit Marine Pro is a new fixture and frankly far too expensive for what you get. That thing is $400 right now on Amazon and I don't think it's worth that much personally. It would easily grow softies and LPS and you should be fine with some SPS towards the top of your rock structure.

The good thing about these fixtures is the timer. It is really easy to program the whole thing and it works really well. The Pro does have the secondary optics that the original does not so that gives it a bit of extra punch. For the price, I think you would be better off with a pair of AI Primes or some MarsAqua panels.

Thanks, that was pretty much exactly the answer I was looking for. Do you think i would be ok with 2 of the regular orbit marines? I happen to like that model and I found a pretty good deal on a pair.

With two you should be able to grow SPS corals easily. Those chinese panels are more powerful but you also have to worry about controlling 4 plugs compared to having a built in controller.

O I picked that up an ebay. Placed a bid didn't think I would win it for what ub set my max to. One week later it said I won it. Just need to keep an eye out for deals bc it can happen

I didn't see a lot of those answers when I ordered yesterday haha. I wound up getting the 2 36" orbit marines for 275 and free shipping. Thanks for all the info guys. Can't wait to get this thing set up.
