Hi Nano-Reef!

I am upgrading to a RL-45, which will get all the coral from my NanoCube, but new LR and ReefCleaners.

Now that I actually have some room, I get to consider getting fish!

My list so far (Pathetic, right?)

Fish:

2x Designer Clowns

?

?

?

Coral:

See Visual Below (Ignore hair algae- this pic is a bit ago and now it's gone)

Wrasse usually always gets my vote, lots of options here,I myself have a really awesome sixline.

I should clarify that the tank is RIMLESS!

(I may get a screen lid if neccesary, but for the cooling and visual effect I would rather leave it rimless)

Ah very well.

I don't mean to disregard your recommendation or sound unappreciative- I really like Wrasses, but they are known to be jumpers.

This is kind of a weird suggestion but my fiance bought a black-axial chromis on my last DD/Live aquaria order without telling me and its kind of awesome. I would have never bought it on my own volition but now that it's in the tank and coloring up from the quality feedings/water quality its a very attractive fish.

Just a quick suggestion is to get a screen lid of some sort, just in case, I've had clownfish jump before. It's just a nice security in case you want to buy a fish that catches your eye but is a little pricey. I enjoy bangaii cardinals.

Everything will jump - even clowns (I have had clowns jump/try to jump many times). Get a lid.

I was gonna say that, that's probably the most common fish loss reason I see on here, "my fish jumped "

Just looked them up and they're pretty cool! Only thing is I am leaning towards the Black Ice or Darwin clownfish, so I would need some more color

I do have the stock tempered glass cover- I might use it. However at the moment I do not have a chiller, and the tank runs warm due to the three cheap pumps.

So I've heard :(

What do the other rimless fellas do? Ive seen MANY rimless tanks with fish, and I doubt the owners are constantly picking them off the floor

There are a lot of fish that are less likely to jump, however most can and will. I've never had a rimless tank, maybe someone will chime in with some helpful advice for you.

I have a rimless tank. What I did was get a window screen kit and some mesh from BulkReefSupply and made a lid that sits on the ledge of the tank. It is not that attractive as no lid, but it is better than finding dead fish on the floor. I think people need to get over the ascetics issue of not wanting a rim and be responsible about keeping their fish from jumping.

I'm not ranting or anything. I have just seen too many threads/posts with people sad because their fish jumped and is all dried up and dead. It can easily be prevented.

Take the lid off for pictures?

I have a light diffusing panel that I cut to sit on the black rims inner ledge,it worked out that it sits perfectly level with the top of the rim. There are some options for ya as Arkayology said, granted I understand the look is completely different than mine,as yours is rimless but figured wouldn't hurt to share maybe spark an idea.

^ Agree 100%.

I am guilty of this....but it isn't for wanting to keep the tank without a lid. I still have yet to figure out how to get the screen mesh and screen trim to sit on my tank because of the overflow and raised standpipe.

Small gobies are always great to have. Some hide, but I've had good luck with them being active. Beautiful tank BTW

I totally understand about being pissed about the whole jumper thing. Neither negligence nor a sense of entitlement is an excuse for a critters death.

In fact this morning I woke to a dead cleaner shrimp, and I am still trying to figure out what went wrong. Parameters are perfect, and I did a two hour "drip per second" acclimation.

So what would your (with lid) stock list be?

  • 2 Designer Clowns (Black Ice or Darwin)
  • 1 Dwarf Angelfish
  • 1 Blenny
  • ????
