do you think my tank is cycled by now?

I setup a 93g back in middle of February. I filled the tank with new water and started the cycling with a dead shrimp and dry rocks. (no live rocks, no sand...)

I have been testing ALK, Phosphate, and Calcium weekly after the 5th week but I've never tested for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. I thought of buying the ammonia, nitrite test kits but did not feel like wasting my money on them. In March, I added a yellow tang and a purple tang and they both have been doing pretty well since.

Because I have never tested for ammonia and nitrite. my quesiton is, do you think my tank is cycled now?

thanks

Haha troll Mothafu**er!

Since when is ammonia/nitrite/nitrate test kits a waste of money?! Seriously if someone reads this they may not be used often, but when they are it's at crucial moments like when starting a new tank or when there's problems - so buy them or have quick and ready access to them.

In case this happens to not be a troll   , your tank is obviously cycled if you have had livestock in there since March...

Your tank will only be fully cycled after you replace the 2x4 light mounts with something far less ghetto!

i do not think the 2x4 light mounts thing will make or wont make the tank cycled.

I think that someone (who will now be known as Captain Literal) doesn't get jokes!

Since when are we a-holes? Don't pretend you guys aren't just being plain mean.

@OP: Ammonia test kits and stuff are really important though, you should be be checking from the start. But no worries, it's not too late. All you have to do is test your filtrative capacity and see if your aquarium is cycled.

I know right. It's like everyone is channeling the lounge into other facets of the forum.

It's depressing really.

do you think I should really need it now?

tank has been stocked with lots of SPS since middle of March. I have not lost any sps yet.

Both fish are doing well since I added them as well.

thanks

Up to you since it is your money. I personally have a 2 cup vase and just turned my 0.7 gal cube into a saltwater and I have a test kit.

My approach to saltwater with these tiny tanks may be looked at as radical. You not testing the water quality may be radical as well...

Guys, this has got to be a troll...

If it's not - then sadly I think this person probably isn't going to fare too well in the hobby. IMO there's a minimum level of knowledge that everyone must acquire on their own as a sort of test of one's will to succeed. "Is my tank cycled yet", unless it's a special situation, qualifies as something a person should know before making their first livestock purchase, no exceptions! It looks like this OP read a canned response to add a dead shrimp without any knowledge of what's happening and got lucky that his fish are still alive.

That's the issue though. This guy's post is no different from really at least half the newbies out there, just as canned as anyone else's. I just don't think it specifically warrants a different response compared to everyone else's because of that. Also it's probably better to teach the OP how to think and succeed in the hobby, rather than just be a-holes.
