Thanks guys. Tank should of shipped yesterday but no confirmation yet.

Not sure on the fuge light since I don't have it yet. I have a feeling it will have no identification on it. I will post what it is if I can figure it out. It does look interesting.

This build needs some pictures... my wife gave me an ultimatum... get her a puppy or return the tank. Tank and a new dog? Sounds like a win win. (New one on the left.)

So we went down to the humane society (after about 9 attempts, and found what she wanted...).

NanoBox Quad Arrived...

RODI / Salt Stations finished. I nixed the solenoid/float switch set up. I am just going to use the Garden Hose Timer + Auto Shut Off Valve. I will be adding countdown timers on the saltwater mixing pump so I can let it mix for 2-4 hours and automatically stop it.

Before shot...everything ready for the tank. Rewired the socket for a GFCI and removed the switch controlling it.

  • Rio Aqua 420GPH pump to pump from bin to ATO or SW Vat

Sweet buy. I really like that Artisan 70g setup. I'll definitely be following along!

P.S. The fuge light is nifty, but not very bright.

Can't wait of setup pictures. Kind of sad I did not go with a 70 gallon tank, digging the longer sump, i.e. could have added a refugium.

The mixing station looks good. Are you using those recycling bins for mixing and holding water? Honestly I wouldn't trust them and would look at getting some containers designed to hold water. Can't wait to see the tank get set up.

Both really. I am probably storing about 15-18 gallons of RO and 10-12 of saltwater. The saltwater will only stick around for 48 hours or so for water changes.

These are more or less temporary solutions. I will be converting to two 20-25 gallon polyethylene tanks in the near future. As you can see, the current set up is extremely space limited. That closet is the last room in the house I haven't renovated but it also is the only closet with access to water, drain, and electrical. I will be converting it to a laundry room in the next 12 months.

CN, I was literally just on your build thread. Your tank is awesome. I hope I can find some RBTAs that look as good as yours.

Tank shipped and arrives Thursday. So I have been working on my scape and finally came up with one. Let me know what you think.

<Removed, Original Scape... Didn't work out due to space...>

Man if you can put that scape in your tank it'll be pretty sweet. Def have plenty of room to place a lil of everything.

Why the Jebao wave makers? With your incredible equipment list I would go with Vortech!

Let's see your quad's color scheme!

The original location of the tank wouldn't of allowed for a Vortech. I was looking at getting a single MP40QD. Since then the tank location has moved and now I actually have an opportunity... but I will try to Jaebo's first and upgrade once the tank gets cycled.

The Quad is just white/white. I would of gone with something more stylish but my wife wants the equipment to invisible. Which also applied to the Vortech earlier. In fact, she doesn't care for rimless tanks at all because you can see the light. So the white stand, white light, no equipment showing... shes so far happy. While less stylish, it will blend in with the house as a piece of furniture and keep the attention to whats inside the aquarium.

That's my goal! A little of everything.

Current layout...

So I know my wife wouldn't have liked a conduit style rigid mount... I wanted to try something different.

(1) Ikea 11" deep high gloss shelf and mounts - $36

20150627_172822.jpg

(2) 18 X 16 steel shelf brackets which I removed the supporting angle pieces - $20

20150627_173911.jpg

(2) Ikea picture frames to hide the brackets - $13

20150627_174119.jpg

Hoping the light gets back in 2 or 3 weeks to get this finished and see how it looks. So far... I am more than satisfied with the look, especially for $69. I lucked out and the pre-drilled holes in the bracket align with the center of the tank.

I'll cover this in my review but I do want to say... I am very impressed with the CAD tank overall. The glass is super thick and well constructed. The stand is also pretty impressive... The finish isn't crazy good, can look a little blotchy in places but you really have to be staring at it and looking for the flaws.

However, there are a few things I am really disappointed by... mostly minor.

  1. Doesn't come with any instructions. I know how most of it goes... its not rocket science, but for for selling a "complete package". I would expect this is a must.
  2. The plumbing that came with the system is complete shit. Specifically the bulk head fittings and design.
  3. The refugium light is a joke... they shouldn't of even offered it.
  4. The return pump is a joke... low quality, pretty noisy, low output.

To me, all those are minor... The tank, stand, and sump are the core of the purchase and they all turned out well.

Now, anyone have any preference on a MP40QD or a XF130 Gyre? I'm torn... Ill run my Jaebo's for awhile but will upgrade to one of those in a few months.

Is the plumbing really that bad? My reefer order fell through because of availability and I really like these tanks but I've heard their plumbing is always shit :/

Gyre XF150. You won't regret it.

I have live the MP 40, a little to much for my tank. I have also an MP 10 both hiding on the back walls. I get an awesome wave and gyre pattern with nutrient transport mode.

Update!

  • Cycle finished. Well, as far as ammonia/nitrates. A whole raw large shrimp was added, and peaked the ammonia at 1.0ppm and yesterday tested zero for both ammonia and nitrates. I also added supplement of Bio Spira to boost the level. Diatoms are showing slowly since I don't have a light on the tank yet. (I sent the Quad back to be reworked for a hanging kit and 4 channel control.). The gooseneck wouldn't fit the 10mm glass and I felt better with a hanging mount than making it work and not taking a dive in the tank. Light in the picture is the CAD fuge light...
  • Going to purchase a fish or two and place them in the QT for 48 hours this afternoon.
  • Ordered the Jebao DC-6000 return pump. The stock CAD pump is noisy and weak... going to run the DC-6000 into a bulkhead for the return, and to turn the reactor and branch off to refugium section for some flow... I am not stoked about this sump design. I also have quite a bit of cleaning up to do.

Came to see the tank, stayed for more pics of the Shiba!

Since you asked...

4th of July get together, had more dogs than people... below is half, but most I could get in a frame.

20150704_193710.jpg

My shiba wanted nothing to do with them...

20150704_193635.jpg

Then a few hours later when the fireworks started... trying to dig her way under a bar cart. She's terrified of fireworks.

20150704_212423.jpg

Then my two little bitches at home... That's my shiba's favorite spot, where she can look outside to the driveway to see who is coming.
