emkovar
New tank start up 2-3 weeks old. I didn't clean my live rock (in hindsight stupid I know) and have ended up with a large number of hitchhikers..... Saw this guy earlier this week, but he quickly moved to a spot I couldn't see him anymore. Today he was out in the open and and got a couple of pics of him. He is about 1/2" long. Anyone know what it is?? Reef safe?? Thanks in advance. Link to comment
Jellyingabout
a cute little stomatella snail, very good clean up crew and the fastest snails i have ever seen. As for not cleaning the liverock i think it the best option. There are really only two hitchhikers that need hours of effort and thats bryopsis and nudi's. everything else only takes a small effort to get rid of. And think of all those good hitchhikers out there, like this little guy. Link to comment
amphipod
Jelly is correct. Also don't worry of cleaning live rock, its dead rock if you clean it in my opinion. Link to comment
rone_kevin66
+1 on amp. Some ppl are so fast to kill everything even though they have done nothing. The only thing I never trust is crabs they go but other then that it lives till it poses a threat or tries to take over. My impression is we make mini reefs to mimic real ones and they have all sorts of life. So why kill something needlessly Link to comment

Most Crabs belong in seperate crab only tanks, or a refugium at times. Link to comment

I keep my crabs separate and they are pretty fun, but I wouldn't dare let one in any of my other tanks. Link to comment

Ga912
2 hermit,1 emerald, and 1 porcelain(white) But the emerald does and will eat stomatella snails. Mine ate all but one big one. But they must have laid eggs because now I have about 50 little babies everywhere ? Link to comment
emkovar
I ended up with an emerald hitchhiker as well as some bristleworms and now this stomatella snail. At the beginning the crab went for the bristleworms over the snail. Im planning on keeping the crab in as he has been leaving the other inhabitants alone. I might start feeding him a bit when I get home from my vacation. I dont want to start introducing something new to the tank until im home to watch it. Link to comment
rone_kevin66
Even if you feed the crab they are opportunist and will eat anything that's an easy meal. Link to comment

In this case the good part is keeping the crab and having anoter piece of the cuc, but you end up paying in other cuc members being snacks and worst case scenario coral crispies Link to comment
