Benny314 Posted May 15, 2015 Share Posted May 15, 2015 Carefully lift the heater out (turn it off first so it doesn't pop) and scrap it of and wipe the area down with some white vinegar. If you disturb it under water it may release spores and they'll pop up every where. With it being so small I'd say you may have others you haven't seen yet as they tend to come in on live rock so it's moved to your heater or that's where a spore has settled. When aiptasia move (like some mushrooms) they leave bits of their foot behind sometimes, each bit will grow into a new anemone. Link to comment

I've gotten through 2 copper band butterfly fish, first one was the first casualty of a fishbola (velvet) outbreak in the new year and the second I risked the other month got bullied to death by my very grumpy sail fin tang. Neither ate any aiptasia. Not amused. I get fed up every so often and go at them with some white vinegar delivered by syringe with the pumps off in the tank. Desperately trying to get some berghia nudies but no one has any around me. Might try a filefish, but the last one I had preferred picking at my LPS. They end up bloody every where, had loads loving life in my skimmer until I cleaned it and gave it a vinegar bath the other week. That sorted the buggers out lol. Link to comment

And how toget it off it is aiptasia, they can be invasive at times, I have been keeping them for some time making personal notes and observations about their behavior, they aren't as invasive as most make them out to be unless you really make them mad, I sometimes give mine a tear or touch it profusely to make them angry and go on a spawning rampage. Not a whole lot of "reef safe" animals can kill them, some crabs like to eat them, berghia will get them, some shrimp. You can remove them with strong flow until they detach then net them up.
