gkarris
I love cube shaped things, did this setup to challenge myself on a tight budget: Small cube vase (16 oz?), free from my cousin's wedding Small amount of live sand, rubble, and snail, $6.50 (from an exceptional LFS) Lamp from Target, $11 Coral Life CFL Lamp, $1 (was closout years back from Petco) (have cheap LED on order) Airstone, line, splitter, $6 The water from the LFS purchase should last a few changes... Here it is, and after adding the light, that small white thing appeared. I just used an airstone to circulate the water and just split it off my Tetra tank. It reduced the flow in the Tetra tank, a 0.7 gal, to a nicer level. Here's a closer with the snail: Link to comment

I just figured out if you click on the picture it gets bigger. Cool little tank! Thanks. It's just my Neon Tetra Tank. It is a "Betta Cube" from elive I got at Petco - finally small cube aquariums you can get off the shelf! http://elivepet.com/fish/aquariums/betta-cube/ I love this idea, do you plan to put coral in it? Kinda, if I can find those $5 & $10 frags I see people mention a lot. The LFS's around here are mostly $20 ones and the one with the $10 frags are really their $20 ones about to die... But the LFS I got this stuff from has great livestock and last time I tried to set up a tank stuff just started growing out of all of it. Too bad I had to take it down before getting fish due to my job situation. So will wait until I see what grows out of this one. I may wait until I get my Evolve 2 setup so if the frag doesn't do well I can put it in the larger tank. Astrea star. Yes! Thanks I forgot the name. How are they? Mine crawled off somewheres... NinjaReefer
Cheap frags are hard to come by these days. Try finding a fish store that does there own fragging and explain to them how small yout tank is and that you need tiny cheap frags. When I was setting up my old pico the owner would save all the tiny pieces that broke off when he was fragging. I would get these cool little frag packs with just a polyp or 2 of several corals for very cheap. He didnt mind doing this because nobody else wanted the little pieces. Link to comment

The SW LFS has such high quality stuff, I asked and they don't do $5 frags. They just had gotten a bunch of $10 ones and I got one. This is from a week and a half ago. They weren't opening much. The tank was running "cool" (72F), so I replaced the cheap LED grow light with some old Penplax PG grow light tube I found in my old fish tank stuff. The incandescent lamp heats the vase a bit to 77F. I got food for them over the weekend. They seem very happy now. The guy at the FS said these were easy to take care of. If anyone has more ideas or suggestions... Link to comment
gkarris
Traded the frag out with one in my vase then took the contents in this to make a self-enclosed system. will continue here http://www.nano-reef.com/topic/362072-low-techno-tech-picos-thread/ Link to comment
