How long is too long to wait to pair a shrimp/goby?

I have had a Tiger pistol shrimp in my five gallon fluval spec for about 6-8 months now. I have gotten a yellow watchman goby in the past but it died immediately despite my tank parameters being perfect. The LFS gave me my money back and then I got another yellow watchman and it just straight up disappeared... Never found it or signs of it being dead. I really wanted to try again and get a yellow watchman as it is what I really wanted since before my tank was even wet. What are the chances of the shrimp and goby being able to pair since my shrimp has already been in there so long? Is it a bad idea to get another goby? I have also had a sixline wrasse in my tank since February if that matters. Other than corals and CUC the shrimp and the wrasse are the only current livestock. Please let me know what you think?

In a five gallon a yellow watchman would simply out grow the tank I would go with a smaller shrimp goby.

A Randall's Goby, or Yasha may but I am not 100% sure that they will like the watchman would

Gobies can be jumpers, so that's probably what happened to your ywg that disappeared. I do believe, though, that they would be less likely to jump once they find their shrimp buddy. They'll probably just stay on the sand bed 99% of the time once they've bonded.

I was told by someone at one of my LFS that both of those are too small of a species to pair with a tiger pistol shrimp. :/

I have a lid on my tank so I don't think that it was possible for him to jump out. I never really thought of that being the reason though. I guess its still possible if maybe I had the lid off for a minute or two and didn't notice it jump out...

I would recommend to remove the tiger pistol shrimp and get a candy stripped pistol, which is much smaller and less aggressive than the TPS. Your tank is too small for that shrimp that gets too big and aggressive. Good luck.

I would say just try another watchmen, another member on here has the same pair and I believe he has had them for quite some time in his spec V along with a clownfish and a boatload of coral, LPS, SPS, softies all of the goods ahah

But like previously stated he has the candy pistol shrimp

The colors are better anyways haha

+1 on trading in the tiger and getting a randalls pistol shrimp (candy striped), Like en28so said above. I have one paired with YWG. I got my randalls for free because the LFS couldn't get him out of a piece of live rock I wanted. He survived my cycle and then I introduced the YWG. It took about 10 minutes for them to get acquainted with each other and they never leave each others side. I have a video of the two in my build thread if you want to check it out.

I have had high yellow rose gobies with my tiger pistol that have always paired up within a day or two.

I agree with the others though the candy striped pistols would be a better size for a 5 gallon tank. My tiger makes a mess of my 40 breeder and will pick up rocks 2-3 times the size of himself.
