I'm putting together a very small frag tank. Mr Aqua 3 gal Bookshelf (18 x 5.4 x 7.1) and i want some lighting suggestions.

I want enough PAR for SPS (at about 4 to 5 inches below the surface) and want something other than a Par 30 or 38 (which would spotlight the center but leave the ends wanting).

I've thought about either a Current marine orbit or maybe something like LED strips but i wanted to check with Y'all and see what your thoughts would be.

Thanks for any help.

On the cheap I would say gu10. Other than that a diy rig or another nanobox :) The diy route is fun, a learning experience and also save yourself $$. Make it your play around tank.

I always wanted to do similar but I want the length to be 8' and wall mount it!! mp10 at either end.

I would do (if it was my tank):

-18" RapidLED heatsink or LEDsupply has 2.5"x2.5" heatsink a for like $3 (I have 2) you'd probably need about 3-4,and glue 2 together and do 2 clusters.

- Coralux 4up board w/ 4x 700mA LDD's

- A Typhon or Storm controller

- 2x clusters per sink consisting of probably 1 of each cool blue,Royal and warm white and a hyper Violet and maybe a lime between each cluster (so 2 likes total).

Or jut get a Orbit Maine light lol. I'd go the DIY though if it were me. So in total it'd be around: $55 for the LEDs (say you went with a mixture of Semi's and Rebel's),$45 for the drivers, board, dip sockets from Coralux,$20 for the heatsinks from LEDsupply,$45 for a PSU from LGB or Steve's,$50 for a Typhon $70 for a Storm. Or you can go to Makers website and get a Basic 2up with manual dimming for $20 each and forget the coralux board and just throw them on a timer.
