Zoanthid Frag Tank Lighting

So I've been bitten by the Z&P bug hard and I've decided to start collecting them. So far I'm up to around 18 different varieties of them including Darth Maul, God of War, Armour of the God, Red People Eaters, PHE Red Ring amongst others.

Anyway, lets not get too off topic. The tank they're in is a 24" x 12" x 15" (LxWxH) currently under a twin 24w T5HO fixture with a Geissman Midday 6000K and a no-name Chinese-Spec 'Actinic' bulb as well as an Arcadia Eco-Aqua LED in Marine Blue ( http://www.arcadia-aquatic.com/eco-aqua-led-tubes/). The frags are on a rack sitting about 2" above the base of the tank so I'll say there is 13" from polyp to light.

I only recently converted this tank to a frag system so I'm yet to see any long term results so can any experienced Z&P nuts on here provide some insight?

2 bulb may do the trick, but a 4 bulb might be more worth while. Something with like 2x Blue+,1x Actinic and Maybe a Coral+. This is actually the combo I run,and it's a nice spectrum. Not all that blue. Or,2x blue+ and 2x Actinic's and dirty water will most likely have your fragging like crazy. If you want a cheap 4 bulb fixture,Home Depot has one for $100 shipped to your closest store and have 2 switches (1 for the outside most bulbs and one for the middle two).

I myself have a ass load of zoa's and acan's and everything grows well, and looks awesome. Once I can get my sps out of the tank,I can dirty up the water and have them growing like weeds again.

I may have to look into a 4-bulb fixture in the near future then...

That sounds like a brilliant deal! Just one catch; I'm on the other side of the world LOL!

Thanks though!

If you really want to have some wild colors check out my Nano Box DUO. Perfect for this tank and all wireless now!

This may be something I investigate further into my fragging journey. It seems like a very impressive lighting unit.

Thanks. I know it is more than some of the others but full metal construction, handmade and I can do about any color you can think of!

While Z's and P's will certainly thrive under a quad T5 the advantage with Dave's unit is being able to dial in the right color. Due to the tremendous color ranges of Z's and P's it's nice to be able to tweek your preferences on the fly, which is pretty much an exclusive feature of better LED units. I prefer a more natural rendition of the species with a bit of actinic pop while others go nutty with heavy actinic or royal lighting.
