14biocubeGuy
Ok. I have had this frag of zo's for about 6 months and they have been open all the time. until recently, they have been closed the majority of the time and i found a green hitchhiker on the side of it. Over the last few weeks, it has been getting bigger. I need an ID on it if you can and should i remove it? Also, is this the reason why my zoa's won't open up. Peramiters CA 400 MG 1400 KH 5 PO .08 NO 0 Before you say anything, i am dosing to get 450 CA and 9 KH (KH is slow but steady) just did a water change. Thanks for the help Link to comment
FlowerMama
Looks like fuzzy mushroom from here. Does it move like a caterpillar or is it stationary like coral? Link to comment
jedimasterben
Looks like a pocillopora. They're known to spawn in captivity and polyps start showing up all over the tanks they're in and can attach to rock, PVC, frag plugs, etc. If it has a skeleton, then it's a pocci. Link to comment

Is it dangerous for corals or my tank? Should i get rid of it? is that the reason why my polyps won't open up? Link to comment

14biocubeGuy
So whats the reason my polyps won't extend? My other Zoa's are fully extended and growing like crazy Link to comment
drexel
Looks more like Galaxea to me, but it's hard to tell from the pic. Pocillopora will have thin, rounded branches and the polyps are smaller. Do you have a pic when it's closed, polyps retracted? Link to comment
rone_kevin66
IMO I Would Say HAIR Mushroom But A Better Pic Would help Link to comment
Pinner Reef
It could be a baby galaxia which would explain the Zoa closing as they have a powerful sting. Link to comment
14biocubeGuy
I just got the Galaxy S6 Edge. Ill try and take a better picture with it zoomed in as much as possible. Link to comment
markalot
My vote is poci. Looks like a nice green one and you can probably break it away from the plug and glue it to its own plug. Link to comment
14biocubeGuy
Ok. sorry for the delay. Here is a closer photo of the "growth". I was also checking out the Acans and i guess a Blue Leg hermit crab fell off the leather and all i can see is this poor guy getting devoured haha Link to comment
Paleoreef103
Yep, its a pocillopora. Not even a question. Definitely a Poci. Link to comment
14biocubeGuy
Thanks for the help guys! You think that its a little warfare with the zo's? thats why they won't open? Link to comment

It's possible, though I don't think pocillopora are really THAT aggressive. You can clip it off of the plug and glue it elsewhere. Link to comment

They ARE that aggressive. Even blue clove polyps don't like em. That poci looks very attractive, so if at all possible try and grow it bigger to see what you end up with. I've got a nice purple and green colony grown from ugly frags, and they never looked as good as that little nub does. Link to comment

I meant as far as chemical warfare, this little one doesn't seem like it's close enough to really lay the smackdown on the closed polyps that aren't directly touching it, but the ones that are are definitely gonna get some smackdown.
