Hard to tell from the pic, but it looks fine to me. Acans do that from time to time. As long as nothing is sloughing off or there are any goobery-jelly spots, you should be fine. Is there any skeleton showing?

Mine will do that when they expel waste.

Next time try and grab a pic of just that acan with the white lights up all the way.

Has it been this way long? Might just be a temporary thing if the others all look good. Anything walk over it recently? A pic that wasn't so blue might help with a diagnosis.

I got it at RAP less then a month ago, it looked decent when i first put it in my tank but has been slowly declining. Its a really nice piece when colored up, its almost rainbowed in color. nothing walking across it or anything like that. i think the white used to be blue or green i cant remember

What are you feeding it? Try direct feeding and see if it responds.

I have a rainbow acan that does something very similar. It did it for quite a while. I recently started to wonder whether it oculd be some kind of bacterial infection. I have been doing random dips in coral revive to see if it would make a difference and so far it seems to be helping. You might want to give that a shot and see if it improves.

its hard for me to feed frozen foods to my tank because its only a 5g and when i do algae follows quickly. I think I will try the coral rx dip and see what happens, thanks guys

Put it into some shade and see if that helps.

Huh? Spot feed! Do you not feed your acans? You should. Turn off the flow and spot feed each mouth with one or two mysis. A healthy acan will eat them all and nothing will be left in the tank.

I have a 1/4" glass rod that I made a bend at the end. The other end is connected to some tubing that is connected to a large syringe. I slurp up thawed mysis, clam, silverside, krill, etc and spot feed each head. Very little gets into the water column.

I hand feed all my acans as well. No waste that way. They like to be fed frozen or pellets regularly if you want them to thrive.

Mine hate pellets--they will spit them out or not take them at all. I've tried cheap and spendy pellets to no avail. They are spoiled. Love silversides!

I did feed them for a while but I didn't see a big difference in growth. My tank stays soooo much cleaner when I don't put anything but pellets in for the fish. If I put mysis in I get cyano on the sand and algae over the glass and that makes cleaning a major PITA.

Mine have thrived with or without food, I used to feed them mysis or lrs with a turkey baster, but with a turkey baster its hard to controll what goes where. I havn't tried pellets maybe Ill get a syringe and try.

regardless, I don't think he looks this way because he's hungry or something, I have 10 or so acan frags and hes the only pissy one.

Well, OK. You seem to have convinced yourself they don't need to be fed.

I still think you should try. Really, a half dozen mysis shrimp floating in your tank is not going to cause an algae bloom. How hard is it to clean your 5g anyway? Sheesh!

I know it's kind of a hot topic but I was thinking the general understanding is that acans don't need to be fed to live and grow? I'm no expert so I definitely could be wrong.

half a dozen mysis once won't hurt but do it 3 times a week and it does cause alot of trouble. and it is a pain to scrape, clean algae, and do waterchanges twice a week. I also have a busy schedule, my school has me going all over the state doing internships that are 40 hrs a week.

I'm out of mysis so I think Ill try to spot feed pellets but its such a pain with the turkey baster. I want to buy a syringe but I don't want to look like a junky asking for one in a cvs lol
