So far, not impressed.

Software's clunky.

Website sucks.

Can't register the slide, keeps giving me invalid code error.

Can't register my US cell phone.

Lights are ridiculously bright on the device.

Can't check shit since I can't register the slide.

Why no built-in WiFi? (I knew this going in but still...)

Yes, I submitted a support email. Haven't heard back yet. But it's already leaving a bad taste in my mouth.

The light meter seems to work at least. When the lights come on I'll do some proper tests of the meter.

The reviews I see from people who have one are mostly negative.

Yeah, I found those AFTER buying it based on several positive reviews I found. Lights are on, but the stupid thing is too much of a PITA to use to try to get valid PAR readings. At the top of the tank, about 3" from the light, I'm getting 380 PAR. Beyond that I can't get a valid measurement without sticking my hand in the water holding it.

Meh.

Wow I had none of those problems. I went through two slides so far and registration went without a hitch. I like the web layout personally as well as the web server one as well. I can't say much about the US Cell phone number, but Canada and US share the same country code, and mine went just fine. They do have a wifi module now, but it's $$

Hopefully support gets back to you soon :/

I recently reviewed the device here

OK, I've been playing. I'm not impressed. I'll run it in my 70 to let me know when the ammonia drops during cycle, then I'll sell it or something.

So for the past week or two I've had it on my 5.5 while it's cycling. One interesting limitation is that it can only measure up to 0.500ppm of free ammonia. Not total ammonia, just free ammonia. Which makes sense, since it's free ammonia that's toxic in amounts far less than 0.500ppm. And having it not read over that apparently allows for sensitivity down to 0.001ppm. Nice.

Anyway, I had it on my 5.5 gallon and when it was time to replace the slide, I did so. Suddenly the device stopped communicating with my PC. I first tried it on different USB ports, and even a different PC. Nada. So I opened a support ticket. Since they're NOT on Pacific Time (I'm guessing Europe?) it takes a full day for each communication cycle. So this took a while.

Ultimately the problem was related to using a Logitech Unifying Receiver for my wireless keyboard and mouse. Both of the PCs I tested on use this. I pulled the Logitech, put in a Microsoft wireless KB/M and still no communications. Then I put it back and all of a sudden it started working.

I'm not clear on why that would be, I've never heard of anything like it before. But there you go.

So is it worth the $200? No, I don't think so unless you really need the PAR meter. But it *is* handy to get a heads up when your ammonia cycle is complete.
