Grade A maxima clam

I have had a clam for about a little more then over a month now it was looking good and healthy the whole time I have had it. Recently I have seen my goby on it a few times, and for the past three days the clam's mantle is receding back towards the shell and not coming out. Any suggestions on what I should do? I don't want to loose it if I can save it

So it still has a chance of surviving?

Mine was perfect when I got it. Until the clown goby started going on him. You can try to find something to put around him. like a clear container with holes in it so it can still get flow. Granted Maximas are supposed to be on a rock too... have you looked underneath for pyramid snails? I will agree its starting to look like pinch mantle.. or just a pissed off clam :P

Looks up pinch mantle disease. happens to a lot of clams. What is his foot sitting on?

He sitting on the sand bed

If it is that what can I do it help it?

Following. Having a clam with a similiar issue.

There's a clam treatment thread somewhere but if I remember correctly its some kind of protozoan and requires a freshwater dip.

make sure there are no pyramyd snails as well, those can be nasty, make sure the temp and ph are the same, how long have you had symptoms

Not trying to hijack but anyone know if like dwarf ceriths will piss the clam off? I night I see those crawling on the clam and the mantle area. I know they are dwarf ceriths as they are from reef cleaners.

I have the exact same problem! goby is chilling on the clam and has caused the one of the lips of the matle to not want to come out anymore. I have also been dealing with a cyano or diatom problem and one side of the clam was getting red in the grooves. I cant tell if its the algae or the goby. I don't see any pyramid snails and i'm scared to dip it, i dont want to stress it out even more. any help would be amazing!

Yea I don't think the snails are doing anything to the clam. I think their just grazing but the clam doesn't always seem to appreciate it. And I also know that just cause they are there and I see them, that doesn't mean they are causing anything. Many things happen in our tanks that our eyes can never see, that I think all of us know. Anyways this is my first experience with a clam and from what I have read many seem to think pinched mantle is from a Protozoan (spelling?) that is sorta always there like ich with fish and only presents when other factors stress the clams in any way. So who knows, I'm riding this out, prob try a fresh water dip if mine doesn't look better tomorow. I'm working with a six gallon tank and the clam is the only thing not 100% so I can't be too mad at myself, sps, lps, softies all awesome and growing. We all want our stuff to live so it's frustrating but sometimes out of our control.

its not the goby, i have a hawk and a dwarf lion that love to sit on my 4 clams, never had an issue, after lights out check the clam for snails that look like ceriths but smaller. also do a shadow test, if it curls the edges of the mantle when you put a shadow over it, thats pinched mantle.

it all goes in, and reacts completely normal to shadows. do you think the algea is messing with it? one side of the clam is red

Freshwater dip is the LAST thing I'd do. I ultimately thing that is what did mine in. Check for snails; and put a rock under him

I did a 15 min tap water dip, the ph of the water was round 8 anyhow so i didnt use a buffer and I didnt dechloranate it but it worked like a charm 2 days later my clam is back to happy. :D

Dechlorintated tap water for about thirty minutes. Run lots and lots of carbon.
