Slowtwitch
I bought this frag several months ago from my LFS as an acan lord. It has been happy and healthy in my tank ever since. I did however notice that it does not behave in quite the same manner as my other acan lord frags. For example, it never retracts completely into its skeleton like this: No matter how much it gets irritated I understand that Acan lords should have distinct coralites visible when the polyps retract. This one doesn't. When fully inflated the polyps look like this. Will the skeleton develop more between the polyps to eventually show more separation? Does it look like this because it is a larger variety? The polyps on this particular piece are quite large and extend well over two inches when fully inflated. I am asking primarily out of curiosity and don't really plan to treat this piece any differently from my other pieces since they all seem happy. Anyone with more knowledge care to chime in? Sorry for the picture quality, I use a potato for a camera. Link to comment
Mr. Microscope
It's a lord. Nothing special, just a very happy one. I rarely see my acans shrivle up like in your second pic aside from at night, but never to that extent. The only exception would be once in a while (maybe once every six months) for a few days to grow skeleton. If your acans are doing what you see in the second pic all the time (like during the day), there's something going on with your water. Link to comment

I have a few in my tank that are always super extended like that and have barely any skeleton yet. Link to comment
Slowtwitch
They really never look like that second pic. I did that on purpose for the picture. They mostly look like the first pic. Often even at night. I was mostly just curious to see if this guy was just exceptionally happy all the time. Thanks for the responses Link to comment
Mr. Microscope
Yeah, they grow flesh much faster than skeleton. So, new frags often look like that. I imagine if you shook it up a little and took it out of the water, that you'd get a look at the skeleton. Link to comment
