Biocube 14 Setup Help?

So when I setup my BC14 I decided to go ahead and fill the 1st chamber up with water so I could put my heater in there and get it out of the tank. Planning to put a media basket in #2 and a skimmer in #3. The tank has been running that way for a few weeks now but the other day when I went to top off the water I noticed some foamy looking scum floating in the water in chamber 1. I am wondering if this might be a problem? Since the water flow comes into the bottom of that chamber and gets pumped immediately up the tube to the top is it possible I am creating a dead spot with stagnant water by filling that chamber beyond the "max line"? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

When I would fill my 14 to the top it does create a little scum but filter floss helps .... but mine was not foamy... when cleaning the protein skimmer cup do you allow the foam to over flow into the chamber ?

Hmmm, is this the chamber with the return pump in it?

yeah - Its the chamber with the pump I am concerned about

I haven't added the skimmer yet and that may be my issue - I just wanted to make sure i wasn't headed down the wrong path here...

Hmmm, I run my cube with the water just over the glass "see thru" area, and have had nothing catch there...but then again I am running a skimmer along with the InTank media basket with floss and purigen....not sure if thats related. Maybe your pump isn't putting out enough water to ensure a little movement above it?

Its always possible - its just the stock biocube pump. Knowing that other people are running the same way I am setup with no problems helps. I'm going to just keep and eye on it - doesn't seem to be causing any water quality issues so far...

Thanks everybody for advice here - Just needed a sanity check!

The pump chamber is considered chamber 3 Intake chamber is 1

The top of that chamber is more of a dead spot, but raising the water level it past any level line they put on the tank is irrelevant. You should raise it anyway, the min/max line is only there because that is where they thought it would run with bioballs. And where it would run by filling from the front of the tank. Ignore it.

Since the tank is new and you don't have much of a filter yet it's just gunk, proteins, waste in the water column rising with small bubbles in the water, like a mini protein skimmer.

As you get better filtration in there and the tank ages that won't happen any more.

Thanks - Thank helps alot. Thanks for clarifying the numbering of the chambers too - I've had trouble decoding what people are talking about...

I had the same thing happening in chambers 2 & 3 until I got my media rack with filter floss. Once you've got yours it should stop.
