That particular body is compatible with nearly every Nikon lens so I buy cheap manual lenses off eBay or whatever. Honestly the old ones aren't that bad. Go look at the kinds of pictures that people got with them and at least for me they're way beyond my abilities. Don't think you have to buy the latest and greatest - that said you may have to go back a few generations because it seems that a lot of people think that because they paid $800 for their Canon T3i it's still a steal at $650...
