Blue jelly type thing on live rock

I'd lean more towards tunicate based on the front view of the same unidentified object and the blue iridescence.

Either way both are harmless filter feeders.

Oh cool thanks all, will this reproduce or remain a single item?

your welcome :) sometimes they will bud clones off the side, don't expect successful spawning in the aquarium though.

I think specifically a Clavelina sp. maybe C. moluccensis can't tell from the pic to easily. But its probably C. moluccensis as they are fairly robust and have a wide distribution through most LR and coral collection sites. Never seen them survive long in a tank but they are gorgeous while they do.

tunicates need more studying.

I think they lack appeal to most since they are completely stationary moving even less than corals. But i find it so fascinating that they are the closest thing we have as a link between us vertebrates and the invertebrates

I'd love to find things like this in any of my upcoming tanks!

Additional photos in the future would be very much appreciated (nudge-nudge//wink-wink) to see it's growth and development.

you live on the gulf of mexico, go to some nasty boat pier and you have potential for finding tunicates, and barnacles.

Got me plans to do just that!

There's so much I can find down where the bay meets the gulf.

hint hint, the sands in some calmer water areas will have tons of good worms and snails, choose wisely and you get a free cuc.

Back waters on the bay side of Ft DeSoto state park.

Nice hunting places and a great view of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge!
