Water level in return chamber for Nuvo 20

Just started my tank, cycling, and wonder what is the appropriate water level in the return chamber should be.

I installed a cobalt mp1200 powerhead and it quickly drain the return chamber and made that dry noise run. I put a few more cups of water and have the water level halfway in that chamber running. Not sure what chamber I should put my tunze nano ato sensor in now or just leave it low in there.

Only have heater and media basket with just sponge running so I know there is minor restriction on water going back in. I have about a inch or less of space before the water reaches the rim in the front. Plan on putting in the jebao wakemaker so I don't want the water to touch the screen mesh.

Your top off sensor should be in the same chamber as your return pump. When filling your tank, you fill it so this chamber has plenty of water (not the water level in the display, or even the other chambers). If your pump is running dry, there isn't enough water.
