I will be having 4 frames with 2 pallets ontop total . And center my 60 gal long.

In the picture with the biocube I currently have 2 frames with 1 pallet ontop.

What does everyone think? I live in a 2nd floor apartment. And would be putting this above my neighbors garage

My tank is 48"L x 24w

And when my stand is

6 foot long x 3 feet deep

Prolly weighs 400lbs if i had 2 guess

My apartment was built in 96

Thats 2 frames and 1 pallet ontop. Id be be setting up 1 more identical to that.

Can u check out the feet? And tell me what you think? Will this be a problem?

Or do i need to get a custom stand?

Why the pallets? The stand you have looks sufficient without adding pallets to the top. The 4 by 4's with the metal bands will support a 60. Its not a traditional design but it should hold a 60 without adding pallets to the top. I am still a bit confused as to why you would add pallets.

Can't you see from the picture OP loves pallets. Every single bit of furniture is made from pallets, just let the pallet man have his pallets.

Lets just hope your neighbors don't wake up to a very wet garage. Might be worth investigating into an overflow sensor.

Not much point in a sensor if you not doing a sump :)

Just its always safe to do if there is a sump and someone else's house is underneath you.

Thats y im not doing one, 2 scared! Ive never had a sump always aio.

Think a big smkimmer will do the job?

Which skimmer would u recommend?

Where you gonna put a big skimmer if you don't have a sump? Is the back of the tank large enough? I think it'll be that which dictates what skimmer you end up having to go with. Personally i hate skimmers because of the noise, its not that i don't think they work or i'm against them etc like many. I just hate the dam noise. I'll run everything i possibly can instead.

In my last 30g i didn't run a skimmer only an algae scrubber, GFO, rowaphos and a de*nitrate cannister.

Think i should just run 2 aquaclear 110s? And do 20% water change weekly?

What do you plan on stocking?

I like hob filters like the aquaclears for the ease of maintenance but i always end up throwing out the media/sponge they provide and use the space for different media. You will still need powerheads unless its fowlr.

Skim if you can, but without a sump space is limited and i'd say a standard filter media run (floss, GFO, phosguard etc) is more important. I would always sump any well stocked tank over 24g personally, just because the amount of filtration needed to keep ontop of it just plain won't fit the display.

What are your plans? are you putting a divider in the tank? how heavy stock? personally i like the stock in it but it think the bass may out grow it lol

First off a 60 gallon long weighs the same as a 60 gallon cube it's just in this case the water volume is spread out over a longer, narrower area

Water weighs roughly 8 pounds per gallon and then you have to take in to consideration the displacement factor from sand, rocks, and various equipment BUT rock weighs something too of course

So, in short 60 gallons times 8 pounds per gallon = 480 pounds

I can't say definitively that the floor above your garage will hold the weight perfectly BUT I don't think you should have any issues

This is coming from someone who's been in the construction and home improvement field for 15 years now btw

Hope this eases your mind a bit

Because the frames have no top

N i got some nice pallets :)

I think an old table top or solid door would look great on top of that stand. There is a shop in my town that sells old doors and table tops barn wood all repurposed lumber can get some great deals there. I dig what your doing if you like the pallets go for it. pallets are designed to hold weight. just make sure the frames are solid and are braced to prevent racking.

With a long tank like that you could partition one side with acrylic and make it a AIO peninsula style tank. Make it big enough to house a skimmer, return pump and a media basket.

I agree with Sancho, a partition is you best option, maybe a corner or a section of the back wall in the middle.

i'd dare say DIY would look better and be cheaper because you going to have to install it yourself anyway. Just buy some cut to size acrylic (google is you friend on this loads of companies do it and its very cheap) then drill the holes in it yourself (you clearly have a drill :) )

Then just silicone it in place, I doubt the DIY would be a challenge considering the stand you've built.

Top tip, use water with a bit of washing-up liquid to wet your finger when you rub over the silicone.

email pico tanks, saw something here last week that he was thinking about doing just this. But you look pretty handy with your pallet projects cutting and welding acrylic acrylic is not that difficult. If you dont have a router and table the teeth can suck. A good acrylic shop will cut them for you for a nominal fee. Look here or R2R there are plenty of threads about doing just that.
