Xenia invasion

They're taking over, much like the dollar weed in my back yard! I read a post from a couple of years ago talking about treating with a solution of 1/2 peroxide 1/2 salt water, resulting in death of the xenia without harm to the Zoas that they are invading. However, there was no resolve in the post, so I don't know if the original poster tried this or not. Has anybody had any experience with this?

Turn off all pumps so the xenia isn't waving about. From the base, grab ONE stalk and pull - try to be gentle so that it "peels" off the rock instead of ripping off the rock. Do this one by one to individual stalks.

If you can pull the rock out of the tank. I have in the past used and eye dropper and dropped muriatic acid onto the xenia. If you do that have a bucked of salt water ready to dunk the rock in repeaditly during this process.

If you know how I can get it to you, you can have it for just the cost of shipping.

I would be afraid of hitting the zoas

I kill it off using Alk paste or Aiptasia remedies (Aiptasia X for example) when it gets a little unruly. I cut the stalk off at the base with a razor blade and tie it with cotton to a piece of LR to take to it for sale, then I cover what is left on the rock with the paste to kill it off. It may take an additional application of the paste to get it all. People seem to love it around where I am, oh how silly they are.

Hey, I love it too- the trick is just getting it to grow where you want it, and not everywhere else. I have always been mesmerized by it though, so, though it can be annoying and definitely isn't considered one of the "cool" corals, it's got a special place in my heart and tank. At one point I was able to contain all of mine to the back wall, where it was an epic backdrop! I just pulled the unwanted pieces off my rocks with tweezers- the extra pair I had from my makeup bag.

I am hoping to keep some, because I too think it's pretty cool. But containing it is a problem. It seems to have exploded over the past couple of months, when sadly, I have neglected my tank somewhat and water quality was not great. I think they thrive in less than pristine conditions. I'm back on track with regular water changes and upkeep, so hopefully once I get rid of what I don't want, I can slow the spread of it down with better water quality.

You could always just frag them and try and get some store credit from your LFS or a local group. Probably won't get much though.
