Endevor
So, been a while since I've posted here. Long story short, I have a new tank setup and currently looking into what to stock it with. It's a 30 gallon display with a 20 gallon sump/refugium and being run by my custom controller. Still developing my reef controller and so far my main controller and lighting controller are working very well.Anyway, I want to stock this tank. Right now it only has a clown and a lawnmower blenny. I wonder if anyone has had any success with any combination of these fish:Koran TangYellow Eyed TangFlame AngelKeyhole AngelCoral Beauty AngelKoran AngelValentini PufferI also want to add a second clown and a bubble anemone. Obviously I'm not going to cram all those into the tank, but curious if anyone has had any experience they could throw my way before I start hosting fish fighting matches late at night for money. RC1313
I would not put a tang of any size in a 30 gallon tank unless it was small and you had a big tank to move it to. That being said I also wouldn't put more than one dwarf angel in a tank that size. The puffer would be fine I think, however it will be eating your inverts a lot to keep its teeth filed down. Sorry to crush your dreams, I don't want to be a downer. Link to comment
ndrobey
No tangs. A dwarf angel maybe. The puffer will eat your clowns and blenny. Link to comment
Endevor
Darn... Yea, the wife really wanted a puffer... Feedback and some research ruled that out sadly. I think I'm leaning toward a Flame or Coral Beauty. Do Angels get territorial? As cool as they are, I don't want to end up only having one fish in the tank either.Hmm...A Dwarfx2 OcellarisLawnmower BlennyTentative:6-line wrassemandarin goby (dragonette) neon dottyback royal dottyback Link to comment

Endevor
I had a dragonette for a while that I absolutely loved. Fed it pods and it actually started eating the food for the rest of fish over the pods. Lights turned on one morning, freaked him out and he jumped. Swore I'd always use dimmers since... He will be sorely missed. Link to comment

KyleRay31
If you're set on an angel go with a pygmy (cherub) angel. Stays the smallest and probably the most reef safe. Mines been a model tank mate, it's been a great addition to my reef. Link to comment
Endevor
I don't necessarily want an angel, but I would like a bigger fish to more or less fill in the open water instead of just zooming in and out of the rock. Love the suggestions though, keep them coming! I won't be stocking till I get back home in a couple months. Link to comment

RC1313
I have a starcki damselfish that has always been peaceful and it pretty much just swims in open water. Dwarf angels are in and out of rocks a lot, the gramma I,had was in the open constantly. Link to comment
Endevor
have you ever looked into different types of clownfish? I have... I like the snowflakes, but they get expensive quick. I like the maroon clowns while they're young, but heard they get aggressive quick. Saddles don't really grab my appeal. Idealy I want to get a black Ocellaris to go with my orange one. I have a starcki damselfish that has always been peaceful and it pretty much just swims in open water. Dwarf angels are in and out of rocks a lot, the gramma I,had was in the open constantly. I had a damsel in my smaller tank when I first started out. Not a starki though, mine was white with a yellow top and blue fin... Can't remember what it was called. It got mean though, picked on my clown so I had to turn it back in. I do love the Grammas, do they get aggressive? I know the Royal dottybacks look similar and can get territorial... Would be nice to have an equivalent that doesn't pick fights. Link to comment
Dark_ice
definitely don't want to mix a Maroon clown with any other clowns. Maybe check out midnight clown and a platnium clown Link to comment
Endevor
I may stick with an orange and black ocellaris unless there's some other benefit. I like the midnight, but not so much the platinum... Maybe if I find a nice at my lfs Link to comment

Highball
If you are looking at dottybacks, consider an orchid dottyback. I have one. She gets along well with my other fish and is always swimming out in the open Link to comment
