shawnriv
Hello Everyone, I received a frag of pink Birdsnest a couple weeks ago and I've had problems ever since adding it to my tank. I've had a green Birdsnest for a while now about 3/4 the way up my tank that is growing beautifully. I placed the pink Birdsnest at the same level and it looks almost completely white. So I moved it to a lower location and am having ensame problem. But here's the kicker...the pink Birdsnest is only pink when the lights go out. Any suggestions? My parameters are: Ca: 420 dKh: 8.5 Thanks! Link to comment
metrokat
Do you have a picture? All the pink birds I have known do not fluoresce in actinics. They are rather dull when every other coral glows so I'm curious to see what kind of coral yours is. Pink birds generally enjoy very high light but perhaps the light in your tank has a different spectrum than the tank it came from, this can cause a bleaching event, the coral expells zooxanthellae for 2 reasons: the better one is so that it can then create zooxan to match the tank it is in and the light levels. and the not so happy answer is that it bleaches as a last ditch attempt to save itself from dying. MadReefer13
Not to hijack but I have a pink one that got from a buddy, and it seems to be turning green now? He sells corals all the time and has the mother and its pink any reason this could be happening? Link to comment
mpg732
I have found that Birdsnest's will adapt to the lighting of your tank. I have had it were, like your the coral looks like it lost its color. It can take some time to adapt and color up back up. The unknown will be "what color" will it come back as. All depends on lights. Link to comment
